Default Exhaust

Looking for the most bang for the buck. 95 LT1, auto, K&N filter, TB bypass .
Looking for an exhaust system that roars at WOT but that at hiway speed I can still hear the wife tell me to slow down without screaming. The Corsa Power Pulse RSC looks like a possibility and the price seems OK(forum price $945.24) but the Power Effects system claims to be adjustable for noise level.(forum price $1306.25). Any other suggestions or comments about these two or any others that come to mind would be appreciated. Again, I want the world-performance, sound, and quietness(kind of an oxymoron) at a fair price. ???????

I'm in there with you. I hope such a system exists. It seems to be a compromise between acceptable resonance and WOT roar. I like the Billy Boat set up, but the resonance seems unbearable. I think I'll keep the OEM exhaust intact and swap them out as needed.

I love my corsa setup with ther random tech cats. It's loud when you want it but quiet at cruising. It also does not resonate at any level. I will be checking decibal levels this weekend at different speeds if anyone is interested.

They are performance replacement CATS made by a company called RANDOM TECHNOLOGY. They make a direct performance replacements and also some universal fit CATS for all types of cars and trucks. If your car is stock or near stock and the cats are in good shape there isn't any gains from changing them out. I have a 396 LT4 with a blower and I run shorty headers through the stock cats which exits out through a B&B 3" system with an X pipe. My system would be a bit loud for talking to your wife. I don't have a wife so that isn't a concern for me :)

I really like my Magnaflows. They look great with the polished stainless finish. They do have a little resonance at around 1600 RPM, but I kinda like it. I got the mufflers on line for around $300 and a local muffler shop welded them up for $60. I can't hear the $600 difference between them and Corsa or Borla.

What about performance? Would a whole system be better for that?

most aftermarket cat-backs provide 10 or so horses. magnaflow claims about 16, that may be high but can't verify. i too LOVE magnaflow :D

From what I've been told the LT1 exhaust system is pretty good with the exception of the mufflers. That why magnaflow didn't bother with a catback for the LT1's.

I love my Borlas, but if you are looking for quiet at highway speeds I would not go with these. They resonate quite a bit, but they look good - though not as good as most Corsas - and they do sound great at WOT.
There are quieter mufflers out there, but I like it a little loud at cruising speeds. It let's everyone know your coming...

Did you have to buy a new y-pipe or cut off the old one?
did they just cut off the old mufflers and add a short new pipe
to connect to the new mufflers? Where did you order them from?
Im thinking of doing the same thing

I like my chambered exhaust system. Sounds just like a mid 60's big block with side exhaust. Best parts, it looks factory without the oil can mufflers. Tips are the same LT1 black tips like factory. Growls with it is at an idle. Open it up and it roars. Inside, the noise isn't anywhere near as loud as it is outside. :D

Hate to be an idiot, but what is a 'chambered exhaust system'?( The last hi-po exhaust I had was Hooker headers with purple hornies on a '70 Z-28, circa 1972. That was pretty simple and even I could understand that system and oh my god, was it loud, at an speed, including idle) Since then, and up till 3 weeks ago, my 'stable' had a lot of Volvo's in it so I'm not up on much of anything, but thanks to you guys, I'm learning.

The LT1's stock cats are pretty damn good, I wouldnt spend the money on RT's unless mine were bad.

I'm personally for PE, I knew someone once with PE on his 93, and the sound was great.

But Corsa is the one the LT1 guys go for, almost no resonance if any.

The magnaflow kit I got came with the pipe already attached to the muffler about 6-7". The measure back about 6 or so inches from the stock muffler. Made the cut and slid the Magnaflows over the existing pipe. They welded them together and cleaned up the weld. As far as the install goes it looks very clean. The tips are not the LT1's. Check out this link. The cat back is for the L98, but the mufflers are the same. http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/c...s/corvette.htm

For you 95 Auto LT1..best bang for the buck...
Go to a local muffler shop, get your resonator replaced with 2 pieces of 2½" Pipe, also get your mufflers replace with a piece of 2½" pipe. Consider it a job done, and look at the money you saved!

I highly recommend Corsa. On the highway in 5th gear it's quieter than my stock exhaust was; when I get on the gas it definately makes some noise.

And... it's kinda hard to beat the looks.
