Fuel Line replacement HELP please!!!
Thanks,
Doug
I replaced my fuel lines on my 86 with aeroquip braided fuel hoses from the fuel filter area to the gas tank.I bought the Kit that is supposed to allow you to attach braided lines to -6AN adaptors for the fuel rail and I used those adaptors to attach to the filter and the return line instead of the rail. The fuel rail attachements are usualy the same size for the filter and return line unions. The kit is made by accel and LPE sells them. However, your 90 has a larger return line than mine so youll need both 3/8 feed/return adaptor to mount them to a -6AN hose and -6AN fitting. The number 6 size for hoses seems to be the ideal size for fuel flow.
Also, because these hoses are larger than the stock lines under the car, youll have to find a way to attach them to the floorboard under the passenger side rocker panel. They may be too fat to fit nicely in the stock locations.I ended up drilling holes through the floor area there and attached the hoses with new bolts and nuts and clamps.
Is this helping enough?I learned this as I went. Its not hard to do at all but have to make sure you can keep them under the floorboard area and secure here and there and not have them hang down anywhere.
Let me know if you need more info.Ill try to answer whatever I can.

1. Is it possible to route the lines to the rear of the rails? This would save money as the lines would be shorter.
2. If I have to route to the front rail entry, should I follow the same route as the hard lines? Or should I come up the back and across the intake manifold area?
3. Do you have the part numbers for the fittings? I found the accel ones to go into the rails at summit. I still need to figure out how to tap the hard lines. Some have mentioned an adapter to the gm fitting, but I cant seem to find it.
So the rail fittings should fit the fuel filter too? Then I would need 3 of those. How did the return line hook up by the filter? What I want to do is just eliminate that whole run as I have to replace both send and return lines due to rot on the rubber bends at the block junction.
This would be so much easier if my car were here! But it is in the Garage.
I appreciate your time!

TPI Fuel rail Saginaw to AN Kit Part number 74730 contains one of each:
3/8 Saginaw to 6AN
5/16 Saginaw to 6AN
Fuel filter adapter fittings:
High Flow 8AN Fuel Filter Fitting Part number: 74743H
High Flow 6AN Fuel Filter Fitting Part number: 74743
You would probably just need the 6AN fitting, the 74743H is for a 1/2" line. As stated above your return line is also 3/8 so you would just need to buy 3 of the 74743 fittings to make it all from the filter on up. For the return line you can use a tube to AN adapter coupling and make it up where it turns to hard tubing, then connect a peice of flex with the apropriate fittings.
These should be available from Summit or from LPE. For hoses you can have them made up to length with standard AN fittings or buy the hose and fittings and make them up yourself using Russel, or Aeroquip fittings and hoses.

I have a question about routing the line...
Would it be okay to run the lines from the back of the block up over the top of the manifold to the front? Also, how big of a radius fitting can I put on the front to meet the fuel rails and not have issues?
Thanks to all of you, this forum is awesome! Someday I may know enough to be of help to someone!!
Thanks Again,
Doug
I havent had to change the front lines....what you may want to do is take your lines off and bring it to someone that can install new hoses in them.
Im not exactly sure who but I know there are places that can do that for ya.
This would be less of a hassle to try and route braided lines in the engine bay.
There is a shop near my house that specializes in hydraulic hoses, pneumatic lines and all that stuff. The guy there told me he can install new hoses on the stock lines if I ever need it.They carry correct fuel rated hoses and lines there as well.So call around and see what you can find in your area.
With braided lines,If you were to follow the same path as the stock lines,Im sure it would work, but unsure if they would be too close to the exhaust manifold heat. The lines do have some flexibility but it would come out as a far bend if you went over the top and tried to bend them to plug into the fuel rail in front.Im not positive though, maybe someone has done it this way.

Gonna run 6AN forward from the fittings at the fuel filter. Guesstimation is about 4'2" per line so I ordered 15' to be safe as Summit only sells it in 5' increments. According to the sales rep at Summit, the Accel fitting kit is supposed to have 4 fittings in it, 2 6AN and 2 8AN to give you the option of either I guess. So that adapter kit with 2 reducers from 8AN to 6 AN, 2 straight fittings for the hose at the filter area, and 2 45 degree ends for the fuel rail inputs. Got a 10 pack of mounts to run them up the frame rails and up the front of the block. Total cost with overnight shipping is around $180. Kinda expensive, but I would hate to see it go up in smoke(cheaper than my deductible)! I think if mine weren't cracked and seeping while sitting at the dealer, I would pull them off, cut the lines just before the rubber and put fittings on them and just replace the rubber part with braided line. Good thing is I wont have to worry about the fuel lines anytime soon!
Thanks again to all!
Happy Thanksgiving
Doug
