Mike you are correct about the two in visual comparison as being not so even. But those heads sitting next to it are reworked and cc at over 200cc, so there is not as large of a difference as one would first expect. But still no doubt the 227s are going to be larger. I was not trying to depict that, just noting the size of them.

What I was trying to depict was the quality and workmanship of the heads. I can't say I have seen or held a nicer set of heads. Comparing the two side by side, and remembering all of AFRs recent quality issues, which those heads sitting next to the brodix ones cost more after the necessary port/polish work to correct AFRs original screwup. I guess its just nice to finally recieve a product you expect after spending a decent amount of money. From the pictures you can see 1/3 of the token in comparison. Now let me take you to the next 1/3 which are the comparing flow numbers that were used to decide which head was best suited for Corky and my setups.

Please note the 227s and 215 kick the crap out of the comp AFR heads down low all the way to .500 lift. Then only do the 220AFRs overcome the 215s by a small margin after falling extremely short on all the low lift numbers. In fact, up to around .300 lift the 210 and 220 AFR are worse flowing then the 190s we used to run on our 406s! Looking at the comparison between our past 190AFR heads on the 406s and gains across the board with the 227s, I can only imagine what these 434s are going to pull like  :yesnod:

To harness the power, I am building a chromoly spool that will be tested out and offered to those that would like to get one. Having seen the internals of the D44, I could not see myself trusting all the small components that make it up behind these new setups. Although, I have credible proof, Jeb and others, that have pushed the D44s to extemes and with Jebs cryo treated parts live well into the deep 9s. So should the spool idea not pan out, I have one of Jebs cyroed carriers that I can fall back on. Also Jeb is working on some chromoly 1/2 shafts, but I have him handcuffed to the TIG welder working on our SP intakes that will feed these heads :jester

I would like to show you the last 1/3 of the puzzle, but you will have to wait till the spring for the first track results for that portion.

I would like to say I am VERY impressed with Jim's AFR heads flow numbers, at a little over 200cc, they flow exceptionally well after having been re-ported by T.E.F. His 383 should be something to watch out for also this spring. :smash:

Looks purdy! Will you be going to a 1-7/8" header?

those look nice, and i'm not biased in any way. However i don't think it's fair to compare a 227CC head to a 195CC head and downgrade the smaller one as being non-equal to the bigger new head.
:iagree:

I will be using the 1 3/4 headers shown in the upper pictures. Corky is going to try the 1 5/8" since he may have some other exhaust mods that need to be done if he should switch now, and trying to get to S. Carolina in Feb, he is trying to keep mods like that to a min. Not to mention it will be VERY interesting to see the difference the different headers will make.

thanks ski.

my brother just bought a set of BBC AFR 315's and the intakeis ported the same way with the vein. I wonder why they don't do that to their SBC heads?

I'm sure you and Corky will acheive your goals once again. You 2 start with a plan and then work hard to achieve the realistic goals that you set.

Good luck

mike in my opnion afr is soaking alot of there time and money into there big block and ls1 lineup right and and probally think there smallblock line is good enough 5 years ago afr owned the small block out of the box segmant but now brodix and dart and a few others are doing cnc work and closed the gap and in this case beat up on those afr small block heads
take it from me i bought my first set of afrs back in 1991 back then everybody said af whats? now body knew who they were or what they were it was a toss up back then for some 195 afrs or track 1s back in 1991 but the little 195 afr kicked the stuffing out of those track 1s back then and i bought the afrs
flash forward 13 years and those brodix m2 cnc are kicking the stufing out of those afrs from bottem to the top of the lift spectrum not to mention the the brodix heads are what they say they are the 227 are 227 unlike the afr for example the 195 race are 198-199 then the comp ported sre 203-205 the 210 race are 213cc and the comps are closer to 218 the 220 race are at 223-224 the comp 220s are close to 230cc and the 227 full port are 237-238 cc not to mention the smaller hole with the most flow will produce the most hp under the curve and the graph for the 227brodix compared to the 227 comp ported are as followed ...............AFR 227 comp port...................brodix m2 cnc 227.
......................int...........exh. ...............int............exh....... ...
........................................ ......................................
200...............138.........112....... ..........147............116.........
300...............207.........150....... ..........218............150.........
400...............258.........190....... ..........266............185........
500...............294.........207....... ..........303............208........

:lurk:

Looks sweet.

I am assuming the "M2" designation means it is a Brodix CNC'd T1, right?

Can't wait to see the final product.

Finally got to see mine yesterday at the machine shop...what a nice piece of artwork :D

Brodix told us the heads flow 320 CFM with this new program, so it will be interesting to see what you get when you bench them. Dave has a flowbench, but it reads on the conservative side. We can compare all of our readings and average them out and see what we get.

What do you guys plan on using for injectors? 50#?

50s!!!! :skep: NO :nono:

Corky is sticking with the 24# injectors and I am going to 30#ers, just because I sold my 24#s to Mistaben, who bought my top end package.

30# injectors are pig rich on dave outtens (Hooked Ups) 420 CI motor running a MR and comparable heads. How do I know. I helped Dave at the track and we used his scanner to diagnose an overly rich tune with 30# injectors.

I am more than confident that 30# injectors will supply more than enough fuel to this new motor.

I know what all the calculators and equation spit out, and the critics say. I ignore them and watch the results people are having, as that speaks much louder than equations that use assumptions, like BSFC as a major variable in the equation. Can anyone with 100% certainty tell me my BSFC for what this new motor will be. The answer is NO, therefore there is no accurate way to gage the needed size injector. Maybe is the BSFC is low enough, 22lb stock ones would be sufficient, who knows till you try it. But that is a whole different topic, which I adimately disagree with entirely, based on results alone. Go to some of the other boards and ask what they thing our 406 combos would have run on 24# injectors. The boards that have not already been schooled, will undoubtably tell you that you will be under injected. We know that is not the case. ;)

Joe, yes these head flow numbers should be interesting to see. Can't wait

Your right Jesse, you won't know till you try it, but for someone like me who hasn't purchased injectors yet and is looking to make 600FWHP the more logical choice @45psi of fuel pressure would be to start out with maybe 36#der's versus maybe a 24#, Anyway, get those heads flowed!

Mine will run a .760" lift @ the valve...w/ 1.7:1 Jesel shaft-rockers

The machinist's software says 770 FWHP....we'll see if we can stretch it to 800 HP with some tweaks. :D
