After going back and forth about whether I wanted to do it, I've decided that since everyone else's having such good results with the upgraded esc module, I'd pick one up. I haven't gotten it in yet, but I have a question.
Where does it go? I haven't checked the gm manual yet, but I'd figure I'd be lazy and ask you guys. Simple dumb question, huh?
If you thought your question was dumb, how bout this one?; What are you talking about??? Upgraded ESC??? I never heard anyone talk about this. I know ESC is electronic spark control, but what is there to upgrade? I have an 85 if that helps answer my question.

The upgrade is supposed to reduce false knkck counts
Thanks for the help, guys. I don't know what's up with the forum lately, but it didn't display the first 3 posts after mine for some reason.
The upgrade ESC is GM PN 16038331. It cross-references to several different parts, depending one what auto parts place you go to. Autozone showed it as a Borg Warner part ESC108, Napa showed ESC209.
While at the 35th Anniversary tent at Carlisle 2001 Gordon Killebrew stopped in to answer some C4 questions and I asked about false knock I was getting. He then gave me that GM part number for the upgraded ESC; though I don't know what application it came from it certainly cured the false knock issues.
65Z01,
When I ran the part number in GMpartsdirect.com, it came up as for a 4.3L, but it didn't say which application. I don't know if that's right or not, because when I had an auto parts place that wouldn't cross reference try to pull it up, we had a really hard time. The only gm vehicles with a 4.3L was the S10's, blazers and full size pickups, I thought.

 The NAPA ESC 209 is an Echlin part...Borgwarner makes great gears and stuff, Echlin makes great electronic stuff IMHO :D
