Another "Is This Normal" Question...
I start up the engine on my 1985 and the AC compressor cycles on and off about every 5 to 10 seconds. Is this normal? I just don't know...

Here's the state, as far as I can describe:
Engine idling at about 900 rpm
Defogger on
Ambient temperature about 45 to 50 degrees

Sounds normal to me - when the defroster is on, the AC kicks on too to get the humidity out of the air and defog.

Compressor cycling as you describe is almost always due to low Freon. Have your A/C checked at an A/C service. Freon is a bit on the expensive side, like $40 per lb., perhaps more depending on location.
