Using TunerCat I've noticed that the VATS is not checked in the stock 94 EE ECM switch table, yet I know they use VATS. I have a guy that is installing a 94 engine, ECM and harness in a street rod and wants me to disable VATS. Normally I would just uncheck this item - what am I missing here?
Somehow you can't disable the VATS function via software on our Vettes. The function does exist in LT1Edit but doesn't do anything so toggling it won't do anything. I guess it was made for the F-body guys.
Sooooo, maybe this guy should go with an F-body harness and PCM, right? - easier then getting VATS to work with his current setup.
Thanks, EJ
EJ the VATS functions are carried out by the CCM in the later cars. That is why the box for the VATS switch is not enabled. If the box gets checked the car will not run. The VATS fuel enable comes from the CCM, that is part of the hardware and firmware differences between the 16181333 and the F body 16188051 PCMs. If you use a F body PCM in the 94 Vette you will get a system error on the DIC because the CCM will have lost the handshaking on the serial bus from the PCM. Why does he want the VATS disabled? You could just get one of them VATS bypass modules from MID America to disable it. I think they make one for the 94/95 cars.
Tom, this guy put a '94' Vette engine, PCM and harness in some kind of street rod, have not even seen it. He called me to see if I could disable VATS because he thinks that this is why it wont start, he's probably right. I got to thinking about a few '94 - 95' Vettes that I have done and noticed that the VATS is never checked to 'on' in the TC's Switch Table. Now I understand. So, I think that I will reccommend that he acquires an F-body PCM and harness for this engine application. What do you think? How's that new dyno working out?
