Default Removing Cat - how loud?

Does anyone know how much noise dampening the cat actually does, ie if one were hypothetically going to remove the cat, would there be a big increase in the sound? I already have a Magnaflow cat back which sounds good, but I'm afraid if I eliminate the cat it will get a lot louder.

I pulled my cats off a couple of years ago and it definitly made a difference in the sound. The car was a good bit louder. I would suggest some good mufflers if you are planning on this route. It will also aid the resonation problems we have with these cars.

I removed my cats before I installed my magnaflow catback, and it did make it a bit louder. Without the cats and my magnaflow catback it has become a nice mean note, and when I step on the loud pedal it really says hello and move over.
Next week when I get my new digi camcorder,I am going to make a sound clip at various rpm's and loads.
Stay tuned

I am really considering removing my cats. I herd you do feel it in terms of performance. Do you get a trouble code? I've herd that if you just leave all the O2 sensors on, then you shouldn't get a DTC. By the way I herd this for an OBD I car.

You wont throw a code on your 94. Of course you definitly need to keep the o2 sensors in place.

As far as a gain I think there definitly a couple HP to be had there but it is not any drastic amount by any means. Depending on how many miles are on the cats the better it will be to get rid of or replace them.

I have a Magnaflow catback as well, plus mods. No cats.

I can tell you with all combined, I now sound off car alarms, it has a major gutty LOUD azz-kicking sound.....idle isn't all that loud, but when you hit the pedal, an entire different world occurs and you definitely WILL make a statement....guaran-ball-bearin'-teed.

You should bear in mind however, that I'm a person who loves LOUD. I've listened to LOUD rock-n-roll for 25 years, and I mean I love it cranked. So I like my car cranked as well. Put it this way, if I could make it twice as loud, lay 1500hp to the ground, blow up tires, be a total maniac freak and get away with it, I would. No, I don't spend my spare time at the track, all this would be great just to get groceries only 1 mile away. So I'm kinda crazy, but I always keep it hidden!
