Default Cam Question

I am about to get the LPE 219 cam installed. I was just wondering how the idle is with this cam? I wanted that really big cam lope. Will I be satisfied? If not, what is the biggest streetable cam available on a 383 with the Super Ram that will give me the desired effect?

You will have a noticable lope with the 219 cam. You can also use a Comp grind with a 224/236 ground on a 112. It has about the same lift numbers as the 219 but has a much more noticable lope. It would compliment the SR well and give you a bit more power on the top end than the 219 with excellent street manners. Anything much larger than that will need tunning to give you better manners not to mention emissions problems.

If you want that big cam lope. Then you better off going with the 224/236 cam. I used to run the 219 cam on my 350LT1. It is noiticeable lope because of the high lift, I use 1.6 rr that giave me .560. If you are going to use the 219 with the 383ci motor, you won't see much lope and that is what LPE like to have their cars idle like stock, that is their "trade mark"

BJ, I have the LPE 219 cam in my 350cid L98, and I can confirm what the others are saying about lope. Its quite noticeable and I absolutely love it. I can't wait to turn the key every day just to hear the engine explode to life and have that awesome cammed sound at idle. It should be noted that I also have my chip programmed for a 850rpm idle to boot. In about 60 days, the intake plenum & runners will be upgraded again, so I'll have a full Superram intake.

Since you have a 383, I will defer to what the other gentlemen are saying about yet a larger cam for you; I'm no pro, but its makes a whole of sense as to what they're saying to get that lope since you have more cubes.

219 is a pretty decent idle cam. No real problems with it when I used it. However, now with the Holley Stealth Ram and the cam I am using, I made about 410 HP at the wheels. My new cam specs are 230/236 - 110 lobe sep, 108 intake centerline (2 deg. advanced). Lift with 1.6/1.5 rockers is .622 / .570". Makes great power and still maintain decent driveability.
