If i were to bring my car to Andy what exactly would he do? Would he replace the whole package or was there an exact area that Mike overlooked?

Frank:
I do not honestly know.
The heads and valve train could be fine, but it is against the odds. Once you get into the car, many things surface. It is impossible to tell without ripping open the engine.
Plan on the worst, anything other than that is a plus.

Unfortunately I still am running MMS's H/C set up. I've broke 2 valve springs and two other tuners said they don't think it's a failure from the actual spring which makes me nervous. I bought some heavy duty springs from Andy and so far so good.

For some reason i think i know what all your answers will be.

Frank

If it's any consolation to you, I have one of their later forged blocks and H/C and have had no problems whatsoever from that side of things. (I have about 5000 miles on that hardware) However,........ everything else they did has long since either broken or been replaced! :mad

What you probably purchased from Andy was the Rev1116 with Ti/retainers. They are a great spring. Drive it until it breaks....if it doesn't break then don't worry about it. If it does break again..most like the geometry is wrong and that is why it is breaking valve springs...take it to Andy..he can have the heads inspected and they will determine what is going on. If those Rev1116 Springs break there is a definite problem with either the pushrod length or rockers. I have used the MMS229/229 Cam and it worked very well for me and I didn't break a spring ever.

I think Kevin's assesment is right on ! The reason I was breaking Valve Springs like they were rubberbands was due to the incorrect Geometry.

Well, Big Red is back.
The engine is noticably quieter now, I am very happy.
I don't hear that trade mark : MMS clankety clank any more.
All new rockers, new valves, with all the same height valve stems now!
I Removed the shims from the rocker arm rail,
The geometry should be right now.

I think I finally have the car I wanted 1 1/2 years ago.
Just a LS1 edit dyno tune, and then the engine should be at its top level of performance.

To adjust lifter preload you either need shims or different length pushrods. If you pulled the shims I hope you went with shorter pushrods to match. Did you replace your rockers with stock or aftermarket?

Congrads on getting it back together! I still need to get my C5 to the track too.

When MMS did my H/C, shims and shorter pushrods were used which is why I think I ended up with a noisy valve train. I recently broke one of the REV 1116 springs that were installed by MMS and decided to upgrade the cam and go with Comp 'R' lifters as well as new REV 1116 springs. The car now sounds like a solid roller running about .020-.025 clearance so I got a push rod length checker and I am in the process of dialing in the rest of the valvetrain.

I think I am one of the few people that actually got something good from MMS. I had Mike, yes actually Mike himself, build me a 383 stroker. I have now completely disassembled the motor for the 402 build. Durning the disassembly, I did check all the specs and everything was good. Mike even used quality parts through out the motor.

For the three years that I ran with the motor, I did not have a single problem. Plus the motor made 420 rwhp and 411 rwtq through an unlocked A4. Not too bad IMO. I guess I am posting this is because not everything from MMS was a complete failure.

Keith

That is good to hear.
You are a lucky man.
Your car could have ended up here.....

Sounds like you are.
