yeah, me may also "break" the law sometimes too. i admit, i catch myself speeding everynow and then. most officers dont write tickets just because the offender broke the law. there's usually more to it than that. if i stop someone for speeding, and they are truely sorry and have a good attitude and treat me with respect, i usually give them a break. but, if they get an attitude with me when im just doing my job, then they get a ticket most of the time.

You sometimes speed? You should change your forum name to sometimes fastcop

Having a good attitude and treating the officers with respect has worked for me everytime except the one time I got pulled over in my Vette... there was no stopping that guy. I even had one officer thank me for having such a great attitude... but I wasn't in the Vette.

ive gotten 2 tickets since ive become a cop. one time the officer was curtious and polite while giving me a ticket, the other time the officer was a complete racist ******* (he was black), but i was wrong, so i didnt fight it. i have people stop me almost daily on the street and thank me for being nice to them during a previous traffic stop. most of the time i dont even remember them (unless they are hot ). kindness goes a long ways on both sides.

I'm not jumping in here to stir the pot, just add my 2 cents.

I've always had nothing but respect for the law and the officers that are sworn to uphold it. But they are human like the rest of us. They do make mistakes. Unfortunately it's like everything else in life the negative always gets the press and the positive all too often goes unnoticed. I have been fortunate not to have any bad experiences with LEO's (knock on wood) but some people have and they are entitled to vent. It's a free country with freedom of expression. I for one consider myself Conservative (yes I am in Cali) and it drives me crazy when the Liberals spew some of their nonsense but we are all brothers and have to stick together, especially during these times. Peace or Peace officer (pardon the pun).

I love a spirited discussion! I may not win them all nor will you. In the end what is important is that we all respect each other.

I think complaints about the law, etc are appropriate but I really don't think this law is BS. If you feel it is, I challenge you to go stand 2 or 3 feet from traffic doing 75+ mph on the freeway. Then tell me you're not scared.

The other point I would make is there is a common thread to these threads. If you got a ticket the cop was a *****, azzhole, badge heavy bastard or variety of other descriptive phrases. If you "get a break" then you want the cop to marry your sister. I would just once like to hear a story about someone getting a ticket that they deserved and the officer was justified and professional.

There are two professions on this Forum that I see slammed more than any others, LE and GM Techs. I had a jerk come and work on my heat pump the other day. They tried to charge me for something that was caused by their serviceman. I don't think every A/C repair person is an AZZ. A friend of mine had a real problem with the "geek squad" computer repair people (and you all know who they are). Every computer tech is not a *****!

I've said it time and time again here. Attitude is often the deciding factor on whether that Officer writes a ticket or gives a warning! I can only hope you all remember that the next time that azzhole stops you!

Okay, my flame suit is on 400hp, stockman, and the rest of you (you know who you are).

Okay, Eddie, during my lifetime, I've gotten...well let's just say well into double digits, tickets. Not once can I ever say I got one that wasn't well deserved. FOR THE MOST PART (there's an exception to every rule you know) the police officers and state troopers who've ticketed me were polite and professional. And furthermore, I have to say that I've gotten out of more than my fair share of tickets too. I've got no complaints about the law enforcement community. My philosophy is that if you're going to drive fast, you have to accept the fact that you're going to get tickets. Pay 'em with a smile and shut up!

But I would like YOU to remember, what fun is a story about, "I was speeding like hell, the cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket"? The stories about the exceptions, not the rule.
