Scary stuff, same reaction after dark, and you likely wouldn’t be here today. Like someone said, this one had one more brain cell then average, and didn’t want to bring even more attention to themselves. For most, that reaction would be deadly in any situation day or night. Not only refusing but insulting a fatal threat is a strange reaction to say the least, but no one can Jude or say how they will react in these situations until it happens to them I think. I hope they find them, then FiveOh would be doing something better then writing tickets.

Default Extremely lucky

Wow,you are fortunate to be in one piece.Calif.,law is very hard on car jackers. The penalty for car jacking in Calif.is a long time in the Grey Bar Hotel. That is the reason most car jacking end in a homicide.I KNOW if it would have been me,I would have given him the keys,or most likely passed out.Looking down the barrel of a handgun is a very unpleasant experience. The barrel seems to enlarge while looking at it.I am happy you didn't get hurt.

So - you would go to grab your concealed hand gun while the fool has a gun pointed at you? Sounds like the surest way to get your *** blown away! I'm betting the reason this guy didn't get shot was that he slowly retreated from the situation, and didn't add fuel to the fire. He really should have tossed the keys to the side, and waited for the thief to bend over to pick them up (then grab your gun, if you have one). Bottom line - the car can be replaced, you can't.

Wow. Glad you are still in the land of the living... Would you do anything different now that you've had time to reflect a bit?

Thanks, I'm happy too I would have said the same thing (give him the keys) but when it actually happened all I could think of was FU. The brain is an incredible machine, registered everything and the body had no choice but to obey. Would I do anything different? Who knows, I did the opposite of what I thought I would. Pay more attention to my surroundings to avoid this, for sure

Glad to hear you're okay and made it through unscathed. Though I carry a concealed weapon (in my vehicle, not on me) my life is worth more than a stupid car. (besides, as someone pointed out... even if I had my gun on me, drawing on a drawn gun? Wouldn't be one of my smarter moves)

Though you got lucky, the problem is there are too many wierdos that would have shot someone for their car just for the fun of it... more and more psycho's out there... have less and less respect for humans and human life.

Again, glad you made it out okay, thanks for the post, sometimes we become laxsidazical and take things for granted.

I would love to hear from some attorneys on all this talk about if your allowed to carry hand gun. I know each states laws are different and in Tx your allowed to defend your personally properity with deadly force (correct me if I'm wrong) but say for instance you gave up your keys and then blew the guys head off as he was driving away. Wouldn't you be charged with murder if that person did not shoot at you 1st and you returned the fire in self defense? Once again depending on what state you live in.

A secret if you promise not to tell. A sleepy town in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Leave you keys in the car. Go away for a week and never lock your house. Know everyone one of your neighbors and they know you. Need help someone is there. Need a dime they give a dollar. Moved here from Atlanta 20 years ago and never looked back. Sure it has it's downside everything does but I just haven't found it yet.

Idiot, hope he didn't ding my door. I Unlock my car and out he pops from the pass. side, points a gun at me and says gimme your keys. In my head I'm thinking what the heck? I just stood there about 10 seconds looking at the gun then I start backing up saying F*** You, over and over. I could not picture this slimeball sitting in my car! I'm about 2 feet behind my car now and he hops back in and they speed thru the lot, now I'm screaming at them, braver I guess cause I didn't get shot(and I still have my car)!
Thinking back (hindsight is a wonderful thing!) these guys drove thru the parking lot when I first got there, drove right past me. Parked next to me while I was in the store. If I was paying attention I would have put 2+2 together, maybe. What if this was my wife? I'd be freaking!
I guess what I'm trying to say is what I told my wife. If someone is parked near you (we always park away from everybody) walk around and see if you can see someone in the other vehicle. If you don't feel comfortable, go back in the store and ask for an escort. I think I got lucky today, be careful out there my friends . Thanks for letting me get this off my chest
this is terrible. I'm glad your ok, but it's becoming so dangerous out there, thief's are becoming either cockier or dumber.

glad nothing happend to you or your car.

keep it safe.

Sacto area isn't much of a safe town especially south of 80. Glad you are all right. What is the ***** is that you can never know how that type of situation will roll out. You could have completely cooperated and STILL get killed.

I don't agree with the folks that say just throw the keys at them as that type of mentality is exactly what criminals are thinking will be the knee jerk reaction. It has been proven over and over that in the states with relaxed gun control laws, crime, especially violent crime, is significantly lower than in the states that exercise coddling of criminals.

It's terrible that we are in living in a world that this stuff happens. There really isn't a right answer, luck probably helped you.

What part of Sacramento and which shopping center did this event occur? I am sorry (and this is my opinion) but no bully or terrorist will put me under duress for anything - screw them.

It's really a shame you could not have given him an up close look at your oil pan.
Then again, the cops would probably have just busted you.
If he'd gotten in mine it would have been first gear. TWO and large figgin wall.
Nothing like an airbag check.
I say that in jest he would had my keys and I would have been outside with my S&W. We have concealed carry here in Ohio.
I don't know if I could shoot hole in my own car though.
Hope I never have to find out.

Really glad you are OK!!
