I think the first thing you say to the law when they show up after is "I felt like I was in mortal danger and he was going to kill me anyway" - then you probably wouldn't be charged with anything, even if you got lucky and killed the bastard - I would hope not anyway....

I hope you have called the cops and filed a report anyway. These guys should be arrested for attempted armed robbery...and probably a few other things...

glad u got away with your life...thats serious business..maybe i'm paranoid but i try 2 keep my eyes open 4 that everyday...even though i live in a pretty nice area i know it can happen anywhere because morons migrate...growing up in various parts of los angeles made me a little paranoid because of some of the things i saw...so i dont trust anybody,anywhere in any neighborhood...glad you're ok...
