As illustrated here they are not fool proof and you do "learn" how to use them. However, the way I see it, in a Torch Red Corvette I tend to stand out a bit more than the family truckster next to me who could be going faster and who do you think will get pulled over? In a state where the troopers tend to be instant-on advocates you learn to really take heed to any beep and believe it or not I have noticed that you definitely get shot more when in the left most lane so abide by the law of "Keep right, pass left".
Also never be the lone car in front...always make sure there is a car ahead in the left lane in case of the instant-on police.
Love my V1 for whatever level of protection it gives me.
... but 8500 for me. In fact I have two 8500's and a 5000 that are always with me regardless of what car I drive. Mine have paid for themselves in fines and insurance premiums many times over. BUT... you have to learn how to use them correctly !
Like that old American Express commercial with Karl Malden....
"Never leave home without it!"
I've had a radar detector for almost 25 years, going back to those old huge Escorts with the analog signal strength meter and the amber alert lamp. Presently use a Valentine1. Can't even begin to guess how many times a radar detector has saved my worthless A$$!
Karl Malden is dead, so what good did it do for him... ????he cant even leave home anymore... and what about that nose..... ????? can anyone explain that??? from a hundred yards a way at midnight you could tell Karl never left home without his nose... sorry blacksedan87
I have the SOLO S2 CORDLESS, I would never drive without it. I was cruising to Vegas doing about 105mph and it went off and I had plenty of time to slow down.

KARL MALDEN IS DEAD?????? NO! SAY IT AIN'T SO!
I think that nose sniffed out a couple of adult beverages in his day, what do you think?
I'd feel naked without my PP8500. I live in Virginia where they are illeagal and I still don't drive to buy a loaf of bread without it on. It's hardwired hangs from the visor in VA. Mounted to the rear view in all other states. It pays for itself at least once a week. That said it does not make you invincible. I actually got a ticket a few years ago (not in the vette) and as the cop handed me the ticket he asked how I liked my radar detector. I HATE LASER. (then again I was doing 95 and only got busted doing 70.

Reminds me of the huge "almost big as a toaster" detector I used in the late '70's when I lived in Ohio. Had this huge light in the middle and went off whenever we passed anyplace that had a microwave oven operating.
Sorry, but at My age , it is easy to get off track here..... my apologies to the forum... and to Karl..... I did laugh out loud at the retorts though...

I had one of those original "fuzz busters" as well! Then an escort, and a passport, then I got old and slowed down.
I drive at "55 Stay Alive" speeds, even when the limit is 65... I use my radar detector, so I wont get stopped for going too slow... when it goes off I speed up the the posted limit.. I have to white knuckle it until the danger passes..
