I don't leave home without one. But I have found that they are most useful on long trips. Around town there's to many other things to look out for. And to many false alarms. Plus in town the use laser and your toast already. The detector basically tells you to pull over and open the window to receive a ticket.
I used to use one but still got a ticket . Crested a hill while enjoying a tight two lane road. A state trooper nailed me. I was just happy that all he gave me was a speeding ticket as I was going well over the posted limit when he got me.
Figured it was cheaper and safer to just slow down.
I use Bel Pro Rx65 and I only encounter radar of any kind about once a month, and only one out of every three or four encounters is it on to catch a speeder. Usually its in town and just a cop that leaves his radar on 100% of the time.
The one day that my batteries in my SOLO2 had died I was busted 22 mph over by an on-coming cop'r that was just running with his on radar on. What a Dope. I always have it on now. It's gonna happen when you least expect it. By the way it cost me $100 on my Birthday. So much for my gift from my wife.

Nope...don't use 'em. Spent enough time with LEO friends to know that if the antenna is turned off, you will not know they are there untill they pull the trigger, and then you are painted and it is too late.
I bought mine more for the compass than the radar, but it has alerted me to a number of unexpected enforcement opportunities. Can't say I depend on it, but I do use it.
I travel quite a bit and figure my Val has paid for itself 100 times over.

Like the man said "Don't leave home without it."
I always use a 'rabbit' - and let them get about 1/4 mile ahead, figure if I'm lucky the CHP will go after the guy ahead of me or at the very least let me see him coming down the off ramp. If he comes from behind then I guess I'm the bait.
