Good advice. Of course I carfaxed the Vert, the history checks out ok. I guess I will have to pay for a mechanic to check it out. I don't have time to drive cross country on the weekend, too many activities going on.

I am prejudiced, but the Vert is really a sports car.

Here in Dallas the top is never up on either one of mine, starting in March (I.e., went to a car show this past Saturday, top donw - what a ride!).

As you know, Dallas is warm to very hot in the summer (wich lasts for approx 6 months here ). It is the time for a Vert

BTW, a great club a great club is local (Lone Star Corvette Club http://www.lonestarcorvette.com/). It is the largest in the world, with over 1100 members and approximately 1500 Corvettes

We do a LOT of thing, khauna, drag, road trips ranging from one day, to weekend, to week or more in time duration(s).

So, get the Vert (and I do suggest that you look in the local area - see the F/S section of the Forum, ot hte LSCC web notted above, etc.). If these don't pan out, fly to the out of state location and drive back to DFW.

It will allow you to really enjoy the Vert.

I understand it's a bit more work because it's in FLA, but you really can't beat a vert with HUD Best of luck on your decision!

Sounds mostly like a all vert reply. I think the vert if beautiful with the top down, but just dosen't do it for me with the rag top up. Since the times of year to actually have the top off (or down with a vert) is limited due to being cold or miserably hot it was a no brainer for me to get the coupe. You'll love either one, and sounds like you're a vert man anyway. HUD can be put on if that was a deciding factor. Good luck with your choice, their both vettes so you can't go wrong.

Seems like I'll be going against the flow here.

I love both looks, ecspecially in black....

I say COUPE, the wind doesn't swirl much, when at higher speed 55mph-100mph+, the wind goes right over the top, you don't even feel the wind, just hear it. I'd think the vert would be worse with swirling winds, but I've never had a vert.....yet, so don't know.

Coupe is local, I'd go local, test drive it first, have it checked out too.

I just got my black 02 coupe last year with 20,000 miles for $30,000, I'd think you could get a better deal.....sorry to rain on the parade.
I got mine at Classic Chevy in Grapevine. I had a good experience, give Steve Thomas (the corvette guy) a call up there, he knows his stuff and will take good care of his corvette customers.

My 0.02 cents.

As much as I like coupes, the vert seems to have a lot more options on the car that are nice to have. Considering the price differences between coupes and verts, and the fact that the vert is a year older, I still think the vert is the better buy.

No way would I buy it sight unseen. The dealer will put the best light on it no matter what. He is there to tell you how good the car is. Run a carfax get the service history. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. The verts have a better re-sale value anyway so I would lean towards it, The coupe is a fine car too. It;s what I drive. Either way you will be happy.

I've done the out of state purchase three times. The first time was a dealer that was very willing to ship it. I'm glad I went there and saw the wreck. I ended up spending 4 days in FL with a rental and found a GREAT deal. Fly out! Nothing to risk and everything to gain. BTW- A vert with Z51 and HUD Vs. a coupe without for more $$? Not if they are in the same shape. Go online with Orbitz.com or Priceline right now and get out of town.

Definitely the Vert!! The Z51 and HUD are great additions. Also, Liz had some great advice. Post here and in the Southeast Region section of the Forum, asking for a Forum Member to volunteer to go check out the Vert in person to get a better idea on it. Shouldn't be a problem finding someone local to the dealer to check it out. And too bad you don't have time to get it personally. Would be a GREAT road trip, and probably cheaper than shipping it. Whichever you decide, ENJOY!!!!

One other point. Can anyone tell me how you can possibly get the best price on a used car without being there? Unless a car has virtually no miles on it, it cannot be "perfect". If you aren't personally there to spot the diff. leak, rocking seat, bad fuel guage, chips in the nose paint, ect. (are you taking notes?) how are you going to point them out to the seller and get a few bucks knocked off the price? By not going there you are almost certainly leaving money on the table. Please post that you just got your ticket. BTW-Southwest and Airtran are usually really cheap and won't show up on orbitz. Go right to their websites. Tom

Uh yea, unless you live in the North (which I realize this guy does not) where you could really only enjoy a vert 3 months out of 12.
IMO- Verts are over rated, and I am not saying that because I own a coupe, I was very close on getting one myself.

I think the coupe offers the best of both worlds. If you get a vert make sure the top does not leak. Many threads on that here.

In this case, since the Vert does seem to have more options Z51, HUD etc..I might lean towards it....but if it were same option list and miles on the clock..I would choose the coupe. I have to laugh(with all due respect) about the concern of "wind vortex" in the coupe, in the 9 months or so I have been on the forum, I have never seen a thread or complaint about this until today but that's just me

IN the end they are all vettes and all beautiful no matter which one you choose. Good luck.

Vert...Vert...Vert.. I had a Saleen vert a couple of years ago and wanted another convertible. Top goes up and down in seconds. Nothing like it with the top down.

Whoever said all Corvettes are red got it wrong.
