Default Vert or Coupe?

Deciding today or tomorrow on my first Vette. Two choices are:

1) 99 Vert 34k miles, HUD, Z suspension, Sport Seats, auto. Florida car, looks like good condition, auto dealer selling for a friend, so not really a private seller. Will have to be shipped to Dallas.

2) 2000 Coupe 34k miles, NO HUD, No glass top, sport seats, auto. Local car so I have seen it and it looks good.

Both will roughly cost me the same amount of money, roughly $27,500 after tax and all expenses. Both appear to be in the same condition, excellent.

Any last thoughts. Before I bought my current 2002 BMW 330c I had two mustang gt converts back to back, so I am sort of longing for the Vert feel. I am leery of the wind vortex talk concerning coups, but was thinking a coup is sort of like a decent substitute for a Vert.
Single guy, don't care about trunk space.

I would go look at the vert and if it looks sharp and you can make a deal drive it back to Dallas.

I had the coupe and traded for a vert and enjoy the vert very much. Although it might be unfair comparison for me since I had a C4 coupe which was a royal pain to get the top off and on. I cured the wind vortex with a hatch vent. Let the rear hatch stay up about 2 in so the wind could pass through freely.

Vert absolutely!!!!
I had a coupe Vette and now have a Vert. I would never ever think about going back. Fly to Florida and if you can make a deal drive it back. It can't be over 1500 miles even if the car is in Key West. It is is in Jacksonville that is only 1000 miles from you. I flew to Philly, Pa. last July from Mobile Al. and drove my "new" '02 vert back home (over1200 miles). My wife and I made a mini vacation out of it and had a ball driving our new "baby". As soon as we got home I put the coupe up for sale.

Verts rule!

I let my wife decide and she was all for a vert. Having never owned one before I was blow away at how much you feel in tune with your surroundings when cruising.

Glad I listened to her!

Don't want to throw cold water on this thread. Getting a new Vette is always great!

But is that the best pricing you can get for those model years?

I just bought, within the past three weeks, a 2002 Millenium Yellow Vert with 6 speed, Z51 package, and 13K miles for less than $35K and much better than KBB on my Vette coupe trade-in.

Like FLACHUSNRET, I also got mine from PA (hmmm, a trend here?), drove up, did the sale/trade, and drove home.

Just a suggestion but maybe wait a bit and expand your search horizons. I went through Autotrader.com but you can use many other search sources, including those here on CF.

If you want to stay with your two current selections, however, go with the VERT!!! BTW, is it an MN6?

Good luck to ya!!

Get the vert. It's like having two different cars. One with the top up and one with the top down.

I had a 94 C4 Vert prior to my 97 Coupe...and the Vert was very nice indeed...but I love my new coupe! I thought I would miss the vert in this car...but you know what...the top still opens up! I think it would be a whole different ball game with a Z06 or an FRC...I need some kind of opening to the sky!

Either way you go- you will be happy with the "Vette" my 97 is my 3rd vette! Loved every one of them!

The HUD is very nice...I wouldn't miss out on this option.

Keep in mind I am in Texas and we have a 6.25% sales tax, keep in mind I said after taxes and expenses, i.e. after paying someone to ship the car from Florida to Texas on the Vert.

I can't go see the Vert before I buy it, but since it is a car dealer I feel better than if it was a private person.

Just for fyi the Vert price is about 25,500 and the coupe 26,500.

Buy the vert, especially since it has HUD and the Z51 suspension. What about Performance Axle (G92, 3.15 gears)? Does either (both) have it? Personally I wouldn't buy an A4 without it unless if I were going to put in 3.42s or better.

I love my vert. Top down driving is an entirely different experience than a coupe with the roof removed (imho). The only drawback is the sight lines are considerably worse in the vert (with the top up) than the coupe. It only bothers me when backing up.

Not sure about the performance ax, but not a top priority, color and condition are tops on my list. It would be nice, but that's the difference between ordering one new and buying used.
Seems like a landslide victory for verts, so far.

I would buy a roundtrip ticket to Florida to see the vert. Go Friday evening and look at the car. If its good buy it over the coupe and drive home. Throw away the second half of the ticket, it's cheaper to buy a roundtrip anyway. It would be a nice weekend trip either way, I am sure the dealer would pick you up at the airport. No way would I buy it sight unseen. The dealer will put the best light on it no matter what. He is there to tell you how good the car is. Run a carfax get the service history. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. The verts have a better re-sale value anyway so I would lean towards it, The coupe is a fine car too. It;s what I drive. Either way you will be happy.
