I prefer the snick-snick feel of an aftermarket shifter and since I wanted one that was adjustable, I bought the BPP (16-way adjustable) from LAPD. The added bonus is that with a short-throw shifter, the **** sits lower. As far as shifter ***** go, I wanted something that did not have flimsy injection-molded inserts (one **** fits all), so I created the Glass Elegance shift ****. There are no stitches or other irregular surfaces - just a glassy-smooth pistol-grip style shape that feels great. The link to plenty of C5 install pics and other interesting stuff can be found at the bottom of my sig.

I just bought a 2001 that is my first stick shift car. I'm still learning, to say the least. I have the stock shifter which I prefer for now. This is only because of the long throw! I can look at the shifter and tell what gear I'm in. I think if I had a shorter throw, I wouldn't be able to see where I'm at in the pattern (3rd or 5th; 4th or 6th for example). Am I crazy for thinking this?

It won't be long before you'll instinctively know what gear you're in based on the feel and sound of the engine. Once you go to a shorter throw shifter you'll wonder why it took you so long. I remember when I first installed my Hurst I couldn't believe how short the throw was but now that I've gotten used it I wish it was even shorter.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I'm going out tomorrow to practice my starts on an incline . I've been greatly embarrased in that situation before... :o
Shifter looks shorter than stock. Which one did you go with? How do you like it vs stock?
It is the Kirban, put it in within a few months of getting my vette. I didn't like the stock at all, I think any of the 3 (B&M, Hurst, Kirban) you can't go wrong with.
I don't have a picture of it...but I have a Blue flameball on mine. www.flameball.com Looks great, I get tons of compliments on it. Installing the LED light is easy as well.
