Is it just me or does anyone else have this problem. iIfill my tank up with 89 octane and this only happens when i fill it up. A couple minutes after i fill it up the fuel gage goes to empty and the check gages light comes on. Then if i shut the car off and start it again it goes away ?

I don't know if Chevron markets gasoline in your area, if they do try a couple tankfuls of Chevron with Techron. Lot's of folks here, have reported that the Techron seems to help the flakey gauge. There are theories that some of the fuels have a high sulfur content and the Techron seems to help that.
If you don't have Chevron, try a bottle of the Techron additive next time you fill up. Should be available at most of the auto parts stores.
I know I've switched over to Chevron, and I have not had a single problem since I did.

The book recommends at least 91 octane. Many Forum members use 93 if you can get it.
The wire wound resistor that the pick up arm rides on gets deposits on it and looses connection. When the fuel calculation circuit detects an unknown value, it defalts to empty as a protection for you so that you wont run out of fuel.
One forum member disassembled the sending unit and bent the pick up arm so that it put more pressure in the wire wound resistor.
Adding Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner to every other tank will most likley solve the problem.
