worse case scenario if some jerk off wont let me by I continue to merge into their lane anyways
I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee for my daily driver and haven't been real happy with it.(In fact, I hate it. 6 months until the lease is up, whoo hoo!)
With that said, when trying to merge into traffic and you run across the "not gonna let you in" guy, the situation can be broken down to which one of you is willing to crash rather than yield to the other.
In my case, I always "win" because I could really care less what happens to that rolling pile of crap that they leased to me. It is usually at the dealer once a month anyway, might as well repair some crash damage while they are at it.
I believe that some of the intimidation factor is the width-to-height ratio, along with the daytime running lights. The C6, with its narrow width and taller stature doesn't have the "size" factor that makes the C5 stand out among almost all other vehicles.
I agree with people moving over except those same people who drive slowly in the left lane. For those people, my Tahoe does a much better job of getting them out the way. I guess it is because they know you are stuck behind them and the vette is so small there isn't the intimidation of "running em over" like in the tahoe when they have a rearview full of grill. Other than those jerkoffs I get more respect on the highway in the vette than in anything else I have driven. People just want to let you pass to check it out, hell I do it too sometimes.
I normally get the "celebrity" treatment when driving the Vette. The ones that don't 'want' to let me in, realize very quickly that resistance is futile!
Most people do let me in, with a wave, and kind of 'bask in my wake...'
At least that what I do when I see a car I really admire when I'm in the Toyota pick-up.
The only time I don't receive the respect due me is when there is a car with MD tags on it. I had a broad this past weekend, in an Olds Cutlass, trying to shoehorn herself in between me and the car I was behind, so she wouldn't have to slow down 2 miles an hour to occupy the mile of nothingness behind me! :
I always expect that type of behavior when I see these tags.
I dont know where you guys live but New York is the opposite. I have a MY Vette bright as the sun and drivers act like it is invisible, cutting me off left and right. (Some have respect though) Some times you cant blow by when merging into the highway because the traffic is too thick, or you have some slowpoke in front of you doing 35 while merging (boy do I hate that) and there is nowhere to go. I think people cut me off because sometimes they dont see the car coming because it is lower than the position of their mirrors, or they just dont know how to properly adjust them. I have gotten to the point where I do not enjoy driving the Vette during the day when every yahoo is up driving. I take it to work and drive it home, and take it out for runs early in the morning or late at night when all the yahoos are asleep. And that is when I can really have some quality time with this wicked machine.
Before I owned a vette or knew anything about them I always kept my distance for one reason. Insurance. I was afraid that if I got into an accident the cost to me would be so much more because it was a vette.
I have to agree with the New Yorker. Where I live in PA the drivers have gotten more and more ignorant and rude. You have the "soccor moms" in their SUVasaurs who just get out and loiter and clog up all the lanes. Then we have the "super yuppies" in their bigass Bimmers & Mercedes with the front wheels black with brake dust who love to pull out in front of you. They only know the names of cars not what they are. Also the "Ricers" and the " Pimple Stangers" who
think that they have to try to race you. And even after they get spanked, they don't let up. What a bunch of morons.! We also have the truckers who enjoy riding up your *** end so far and their lights blind you. And finally the death lovers in their crotch rockets doing wheelies in and out of the lanes. I think we should send all of them to Bagdad. The only people who are polite, for the most part, are other car guys that work hard and keep their cars nice...regardless of the make.
I don't drive the vette as a DD, but the times I have driven it to work, it's a toss up on how I'm treated.
The best thing about the vette is that you have the power, performance, and handling to place yourself anywhere you want to be and 99% of the other drivers can't do a thing about it. By the time they even think about jacking with you, you're by them and where you want to be.
I sold my F350 recently....the thing I miss most about that hulking, 4 door longbed monster of rolling steel, was that I could drive with impunity with regard to others. It was rare indeed when a jerk "tried" to cut me off or not let me in...because, well, I just went where I wanted to be and %$#k 'em...they'd move or be crushed. I could have cared less if I wrecked that truck, and those little Honda's and Toyota's sure moved outta my way quickly. Not that I drive like an ****, but ALOT of others sure do and I didn't have to take it in Great White.
its all so true.... a lot of drivers out there take the "fun" out of driving. i dont mind the challengers out there,i ignore them.but the people who dont care about their property or lives, surely aint gonna give a damn about me or mine.these are the types i have spent my whole life trying to avoid, either in the machine or on foot!!

im sortof glad .... in australia , ive seen (seldom) a c4 or c5 glide by, and the traffic parts like the red sea
People falling over themselves to allow it to drive any lane, changing at will
heck, before i got mine i was doing a drive from the capital to sydney - passed in a jeep by a black c4 - low, tinted, roaring ... man i gunned it and kept a respectful 200 feet distance but stayed on him the whole way home, just to admire it
i say im glad, kinda, cuz now that i have one, if i got THAT sort of attention, id be like FreeGodComplexISMEStyler

Driving our cars among the masses is like Lance Armstrong in a bike race with a bunch of locals. He is so much stronger than the others that he can pretty much have his way. In the Z06 it's like you can fit into, or create any opening as necessary.
