I joined the flying roof club. Allstate has estimated the cost for a new roof to be $1472. I was thinking of switching to a Glass Roof. It probably looks pretty cool inside. Just a little worried about the heat. Any input would help. Thanks
I have both tops and have only used the glass top since I bought it. I haven't been in temperatures above 70s, so I can't comment on the heat, but the sun seems to be blocking it.
The last owner lived in Las Vegas though and only used the glass top so that should say something.
My C5 has the solid top so I can't comment on how it would be, but my C3 has the mirrored glass tops that I really like. In the heat of the summer, in Alabama, it does get a little warm inside. The C3 has a good air conditioner but it's not as powerful as the C5's so that might make up the difference.
I have both tops and have only used the glass top since the car was new. It does get a little toasty here in Florida but the tinting of the glass top is adequate to keep the car comfortable even in the most severe sun.
I've used the translucent top in the extreme heat of AZ, CA & NV in the month of August with no complaints. Yes you can feel some heat radiate from the top, but nothing my A/C unit can't eliminate. The extreme heat is hard on the top though. So if it's going to be sitting out in such heat for an entire day or two, I'll typically take the solid top instead. However, I personally prefer the more open feeling of the translucent top. Plus I think it looks better

Here in NM it gets kinda toasty in the summer so I put the solid top on. I like driving with the glass one because A) it's cool to look up and be able to see the sky and B) It seems like the glass top is lighter, and therefore easier to take on/off
I have both tops as well. In the summer I sometimes switch to the solid top to get a break from the sun. In Florida I think I'd stay with the solid.
I would guess the average here in the Tampa area runs around 85 degrees during the daytime in the summer. My car doesn't sit out for any lengthy periods of time so the car doesn't really heat up. The air conditioning works great!
I have just the glass top and living in FL I wish I had the colored one. If I was only going to have 1, I'd get the colored one, and just take the top off when you want to see what's up there. You'll bake otherwise, trust me.
Hey guys I just have one top which is the glass top. The last Corvette I had was a 1996 and had the two tops which is nice in the New England where I would put the solid top on in the fall. I would like to get a solid top if someone has a "Tourch Red" solid top and would like to get rid of it Please PM me.
Next time I will get the Two Tops if it is not a Conv.
I have both tops and use them both. If the insurance company is paying for one top, then buy the painted one. I believe the Lexan tops are cheaper. Hope this helps.
I have both and use the solid top mainly for two reasons the temps in texas can reach triple digits and some may hate me for saying this but the solid top does better on my car in the automatic car wash; the solid one does not leak at all but the other one does. So for what it's worth you now have my 2 cents.

Having both tops, I opt for the openness of the glass one. I believe it also gives a few more fractions of headroom. Here in Wisconsin, solar heating is rarely an issue. A snow shovel and tire chains in the rear compartment would probably come in handier than the solid top.

Did you ask if this would raise your insurance? or do you just pay the deductible and its all good? I was wanting to report it on my policy but I do not want a rate increase, so I have just dealt with the glass roof.
Advice is appreciated
