I wonder if the C6 Z06 will affect sales of used C5s? There just wasn't a rush to scarf up the C6 when it came out like when the C5 debuted. Of course, the C4 had been selling for 12 years and the C5 was an a revolutionary design so that has alot to do with it.
I doubt if you'll actually see the new Z06 on lots......
Think they're all ordered out already. I was at the dealership last Sat. checking on my car in there shop and saw a new Red Z06 but it was one of GM's people who had it.
Talk about a sweet looking vette, they should have done the C6 the way they did the Z06 body. So mean looking, I was in awe.
i agree with ya, except for the interior of the c6, the fit and finish seem to be better, but it shouldnt have to be that way. the c5s interior not being up to par with the finish on the c6 is the philosophical ways of the GM,GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! as far as the looks of the interior imho its seems less sporty, but again, gmo
This is the one HUGE improvement that the C6 enjoys. I really like the new interiors and it is my biggest frustration with my C5. Still, I don't think this overcomes the other problems with the C6 styling.
I know the C6 guys think we are just bashing here, but I generally switch cars imediately if I find something I like better.....The C6 just isn't pushing me to switch.

I won't be in a rush to get the new Z06. Its nice but not 70k nice. To keep me happy with my vette for a long while to come, I decided to STROKE mine out. Looking just at the fly wheel numbers... the new Z will put out 500hp and only about 350 torque... awfully low torque numbers (last I saw it was 350ish). Where as my 383 puts out 550 and 545 torque. I see no need to go and get one. I think just the opposite will happen. People will "run for the hills" where a pre-owned C5 will be waiting begging to be MODed. IMO. And for far less coin!
If Chevy wants to go head to head with the viper on $ and performance they're going to loose a good share of their market. I say, bet the viper on performance and ask less $ to do it! That drives your point home harder. 70-80k is outside the vette niche. JMO
I think the C5 simply has nicer styling...more the "Vette" look than the C6. The C6 seems too "euro" for me.
That said, I did see one on here the other night that was lowered, blue exterior with black accents and IIRC, custom wheels....Sweet! First one I've seen since they came out that I really likes. Still don't care for the sharp angles and those vents on the side, but thats just me.
I won't pay 75k for a Chevy...period,(well, unless I hit the lottery).
I guess it just depends on where you're located. In Tampa I see the C5's all over the place for sale. Prices seem about average.
This is very true and it seems many people have a hard time grasping this.
i dunno, maybe thats why some people have problems at dealerships or wherever they are buying a car from. i may be naive here but when i see a car listed at a certain price, its my thinking that, thats the purchase price of the car! i see a price "i like" and then i negoiate from there if i have to. seeing something thats overpriced to begin with would keep me away from that seller!

My understanding it that the torque is in the 470 range.
The Vette market around here seems to be alot tighter. It wook me 8 months to find the right Vette for the right price. This site below is where I got my car, and they are some of the best priced places around. I visited 6, so called Vette places and this one had the best cars for the best prices in the area.

Well almost all prices on used cars are negotiable. Occasionally you will see someone say firm, but even then usually there is usually some wiggle room. I have never paid the asking price on any vehicle including new cars. But I do agree if I see a car that is way overpriced I usually just don't bother to even make an offer. In my opinion the most realistic C5 asking prices are right here on the forum. Look at auto trader sometime and see how high the C5 prices are. Also for the fellow who paid 20K for the 98 verrte that was a great buy especially a year ago.
Now back to the thread, vette prices tend to be higher in the spring and summer. Are the prices of a used C5 going up. I would say no, for this reason. The depreciation of a used car is fairly steady and unless the vehicle has become a collector car, the price will never begin to raise. It may level off at certain times of the year but over a period of time like say three years it will continue to depreciate at a steady predictable rate. This is why on a lease they are able to make fairly accurate predictions of the buy price at the end of the lease. The % of depreciation is the most the first year of the vehicle and then tapers off each year until it sort of levels out. This is just the way things work. Our C5s are going to depreciate there is nothing we can do about it. It's the nature of cars, they are not investments. C5's are great buys though, great cars, enjoy them and if you want to make money on an investment use the bank or the stock market. I have owned and sold two C5 coupes, and I paid much more than I sold them for, but I did not lose money, it was the cost of owning the vehicle. I plan to buy another C5 and I will probably wait until early winter to purchase it. Why, well I do think I may be able to negotiate a little better deal then and also I need to save a little more money for the purchase. But sure there are some factors that effect vehicles like a new model year (C6), (C6 Z06), but in general depreciation is predictable.

My guess is that the reason for the "increase" in the price of C5's, if that's true, is because of the increase in demand due to the arrival of warm weather.

...I cant tell you how many people at the office tell me that they would much rather have a C5 than that "new one"...
Do you work for GM's Chevrolet Motor Division?
Some rave about the new interior. I dislike it compared to the C5. I don't like the push-button doors and the fact the buttons around the dash instruments aren't distinguishable to the touch, they blend together. The rest inside is so-so.
Worst of all, I don't like On*Star! I know its optional but the car is pre-wired for it.
If my ancestors could come out west on covered wagons and horses I don't feel I need to communicate with someone if I breakdown on the way to the store!
But to be a bit more serious regarding On*Star, just because you don't pay for service doesn't mean operators can't monitor conversations in your car. I don't have anything to say I wouldn't want overheard but its the principal! I'd find the damn microphone and cut it out of the wiring!
There is already a case here in Sandy Eggo where the fed's wiretapped into this guy's Hummer's On*Star system to eavesdrop on his conversations he was having with some local councilmen who are now in court for accepting illegal campaign contributions. Nope, no On*Star system will ever be in a car I own.

#1st, my 2cents C5 way better looking, the style is hot! Why should I get a C6, I dont like the plain jane style, sorry C6 owners, this my thoughts. I could have gotten a C6/2005 instead of my 2004/vert. C5. I bought my ride in Aug. 2004.

I don't know man...I got the one I'm picking up this weekend for $32,500 and that's because I added on a couple of hundred dollars so I could end the auction and not give anyone else a chance to outbid me.
It's also a 2002 MY Z06 w/mod red, Active Handling, etc. and it's got 12K miles...
I went to look and they just seemed a little pricey.
