Dude, I don't know...maybe it's the geographical difference but here are some of their prices:
I don't know man...I got the one I'm picking up this weekend for $32,500 and that's because I added on a couple of hundred dollars so I could end the auction and not give anyone else a chance to outbid me.
It's also a 2002 MY Z06 w/mod red, Active Handling, etc. and it's got 12K miles...
I went to look and they just seemed a little pricey.
Mike
Mike that's a good buy for a 2002 Z with 12k miles. There were two threads lately of 02 Zs for under 30K on the C5 for sale section but they both had more miles than that. I agree the asking prices on that thread were high that is why I asked him to post the asking price and what he paid. But I realize some don't like to post what they paid for their car.
The interiors of the C6 have more Euro flavor and influence to me (as do the headlights) than previous models and certainly not as much traditional Corvette heritage as the C5 has. I think true Corvette folks will find it hard to give up their C5's for a new C6 unless they just need a new car.

A Week ago I took my grandfather out car-shopping. A local Chevy dealer had a 2004 White coup for sale, same config and options as my 04 and it had just about 5k on the clock. Out of curiosity, I asked how much...$45k!!! Yesterday on my day off, I took my wife out driving and stopped in at the dealer to show it to her...(and I thought maybe they would come to their senses and give me a decent price this time...my wife WANTS a vette!) Only thing is, they sold it. The salesman looked it up...and it went for $41500....
My Dad bought a C6 2 months ago for 42,500 pretty well loaded so i don't know where some people are getting their prices from for the C6 but if you're paying 52,000 for a C6 you've been had. take a look at EBay and see what people are asking for C5's. Watch a few auctions until they end and see what they finally sell for if they even get close to the reserve or buy it now price. I watched a few auctions complete over the last few weeks and most of them never met the reserve price. I emailed 2 sellers a few days after the auction ended and they still had not sold the car. I bought my C5 pretty cheap 2 months ago and from what I've seen I probably couldn't get what I paid for it but I'm not worried about selling it since I'm just going to drive the hell out of it.
I wonder if the C6 Z06 will affect sales of used C5s? There just wasn't a rush to scarf up the C6 when it came out like when the C5 debuted. Of course, the C4 had been selling for 12 years and the C5 was an a revolutionary design so that has alot to do with it.
I don't think it will affect used C5 sales at all. Not when it's going to be around 75K and in limited supply. When the C5 came out the economy was in a lot better shape than it is now so I think that accounts for the lack of people swarming to the dealer for a new C6. I work on computers and I haven't had a raise since 98 but I still have a job so I can't complain to much.
Some rave about the new interior. I dislike it compared to the C5. I don't like the push-button doors and the fact the buttons around the dash instruments aren't distinguishable to the touch, they blend together. The rest inside is so-so.
Worst of all, I don't like On*Star! I know its optional but the car is pre-wired for it.
If my ancestors could come out west on covered wagons and horses I don't feel I need to communicate with someone if I breakdown on the way to the store!
But to be a bit more serious regarding On*Star, just because you don't pay for service doesn't mean operators can't monitor conversations in your car. I don't have anything to say I wouldn't want overheard but its the principal! I'd find the damn microphone and cut it out of the wiring!
There is already a case here in Sandy Eggo where the fed's wiretapped into this guy's Hummer's On*Star system to eavesdrop on his conversations he was having with some local councilmen who are now in court for accepting illegal campaign contributions. Nope, no On*Star system will ever be in a car I own.
..rickko..
I think you may have seen on too-many episodes of the Sopranos
I was just in your beautiful city on vacation with my family (Stayed at The Dana) and watched quite a bit of the news coverage on these city councilmen....are these the guys who took the bags of money from the strip joints? Sounds like the deserve some serious jail time to me.
Well sonny, let me tell you how it works. ON-STAR is a cell phone, plain and simple. Law enforcement can get approval to tap cell phones...ANY CELL PHONE in the course of an investigation. I know, I work for a major Wireless phone company. It is no different than a wire-tap on your home phone.
Sooooo, if you are really that paranoid, get rid of your cell phone and your home phone....oh, and your internet connection as well, because they will be tapped well before your On-Star will
Of course, to each his own, but I would not lose a lot of sleep over On-Star reps listening to you sing out loud to "FreeBird" or "Achie-Breakie Heart"

You must work for HP. I used to work there when it was called Compaq. No raises since 98 is about right...
If it only had 350 ft lbs of torque I'd say the engineer that spec'd the cam was sleeping. I heard it's 470+ ft lbs.
Yeah 350 sounded OFF to me too. I can't remember what article I read that in but it was a while back... before the official pictures came out. Made me think the person designing the cam was on CRACK.
Humble opinion time...The C6 is a better car than the C5. The C5 is a better car than the C4...etc, etc. I say that owning a C5.
The problem I have with the C6 is price. I paid $41,000 in Oct/00 out the door for my loaded C5 coupe. Granted, some options are now different, but a new loaded C6 coupe stickers right at $54,000. A $13,000 difference is a hard hit to take even for a Corvette owner. That's about $250 a month difference in payment.
I don't think the C6 is that much better than my C5.
I bought my 2003 in Feb this year when everyone had a bunch of them. I got a good deal because it had sat there for three months and they had 2 C6s and 4 C5s on the floor. Now things have changed. It's spring and there aren't any available in my area and certainly none at a reasonable price. I think this is the normal spring rush. It is rocket science ... buy in the winter ... sell in the spring.
The C6 is a bettercar than the C5 and it should be. It was developed and engineered with better tools and resources and this is the natural progression of things. When you bring out a new product to replace an existing product it must be better or the market place will vote against it and decide its fate. IMHO they missed the mark on the styling and even the interior is not traditional Corvette. When I first saw one I thought it resembled a Camaro more than a Corvette; it just needs more Corvette heritage. The new Z06 is awesome though, the subtle things they did helped the looks immensely by making it more agressive looking and the serious hardware package makes it a very desireable car to own if unfortunately only a dream for many of us right now.
Im currently leasing mine right now at 550.00 per month. Its a 04 triple black vert. I only opted for leasing cause its a secondary car and in almost a year and some change I have 2K on it. My buyout will be around 32,000. Do you think if i keep it below 10K miles it will be worth that to buy. Its mint I wax it all the time and have upgraded the stereo and added several small mods. More to come though its an addiction just like this website

I believe Car and Driver had it listed at 475 lbs-ft in their preview a couple of months ago.

I bought an '04 CE Z06 for a shade under $45k a few months ago (new). I LOVE the C5 FRC body and I can take the $25k I saved by not buying the C6 Z06 and send the car to Lingenfelter.
Of course I could always do this instead.. for about $40k.
As much as us Vette-folks do not like to hear it, this new vette is getting a very tepid response from the general public. The C6 is an impressive car in every way...except its exterior styling.
and a lot of us that have owned many Corvettes over the years predicted this would happen. And of course were bashed because:
* we didn't like our C5's not being the current model any more
* we couldn't afford to buy a C6, so we naturally bash it
* no one ever accepts a new redesign early on
* blah... blah... blah (and a lot of other B.S. answers)
After all the performance benefits a new car is supposed to bring to the table... exterior styling still remains the biggest factor in the purchase of a new automobile.

No kidding! I bought my 04 in Jan. 04 for $1000 under invoice PLUS 0% financing for 60 months.
