Default Did I get ripped off?

http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dd...m&cardist=null

That is the car I just bought on Saturday. Really clean for the most part. It's been on there for a couple of weeks now, for that price. They don't update their website very often, and still have it on there.

So, I bought the car for $24,500...which the salesman at the time started off at $25,000. (And, incidentally, is probably a little high for that year and mileage, but I can live with that.)

I kept thinking while we were making the deal, I could have SWORE that car was listed for 23K something...and sure enough today, I happen to look on Autotrader, and they had it listed at that.

It needed a new battery, and the tires are pretty rough. So he knocked off $500 from it.

I get home, 60 miles away, and the blinkers stop working. The HUD stops showing MPH sporadically. So I go buy a battery for $80, and I put new bulbs in the front.

I thought that fixed the problem, but no, the signals stop working periodically again, which, after searching this forum, I find is a problem with 2000's.

The column lock message came on yesterday, but hasn't came back on since.

So, essentially, I bought a car for $24,500 that:

Needs new tires within a few thousand miles (my fault for agreeing)
Needed a new battery. (my fault for agreeing)
Has electrical goblins. (They did NOT tell me that)
Was falsely advertised on their website. (They did NOT tell me that)

I'm seriously thinking about going back there tomorrow and returning it under Florida's three business day "right of recision" law.

The name of the dealershop, as illustrated in that link, is Hillsboro Auto Mart.

http://www.hillsboroautomart.com

For what it's worth, it's a really low hassle, low pressure family owned dealership with a lot of decent people working there.

However, I feel like I got ripped off on this deal.

Take it back. If it was listed for 23K and you paid well above that, then they screwed you. Secondly, on any used car get a Carfax, run the vin and have an independent mechanic check it out. There are plenty of quality C5's out there. Don't take one on that is priced to high and has problems from the get go. ALso, find another spot to deal. Its fine that they are nice people, but I would be suprised if they didn't know the sell price was much less than they were negotiating with you for. Mistakes happen but in those situations I don't give a second chance to be taken advantage of. Good luck.

Yeah...I was willing to deal with the battery and tires, which was stupid of me. Now with the other problems combined, this is turning into a mess.

Dude, sounds like you got shafted. It seems like one of those cars that just bloom with one problem after another. You should be able to find many cars in your area with the same amount of milage, cheaper! Good luck with whatever you decide.

I'd return it. They'll probably offer to sell at a lower price, but I dont' think I'd take it unless they really really reduced the price.

Agreed...I figure they'll try to sell it lower.

Honestly, I don't think I'd pay $22K for it given all that stuff coming up.

I'll very likely be returning it.

I went by there about a year ago when I was looking for a C5 - every week they had a few new ones that they got at the auction. They were friendly enough but I just didn't get a good feeling about them. Definitely take the car back ASAP and work a new deal. There are a lot of C5's for sell in the Tampa area - also check out the St Pete paper -

I'd probably take it back. If you really like the car, have them fix everything electrical and replace the tires. Then I would see how LOW they're willing to go on the price after taking advantage of you. Make sure they know that you know they tried to rip you off. Just another option. GOOD LUCK.

They already refused to fix the battery, and said "he was knocking $500 of the price" to offset the cost of new tires and the battery.

They gave me a $10 voucher to get gas from a gas station while I was test driving it, and it said on the readout "RESERVE FUEL" at that moment.

After I bought the car, they wouldn't even fill it up. I think that's the first car dealership I ever went to where they didn't fill up your tank after buying.

God, why did I buy this car.

Yeah, I was looking at the St. Pete Times.

I live in Citrus County, which is 60+ miles away from Tampa, depending where in Tampa I go.

I don't have a lot of time to waste Saturday's driving there again and again, so I'm kinda getting tired of going there.

I'm probably gonna try to get something more local next time...I don't want to hassle dealing with a dealer in Tampa again, ideally.

even so, don't think they will just instantly agree to takle it back with a smile on their face.
Be prepaired.

take the car back!i don't know about florida laws, but new york dealers have to put new tires on after a certain tread depth is reached in order for the car to pass inspection or it's their ***!blinkers also have to work PROPERLY to pass inspection,by the way my 01 is starting that blinker issue thing and from what i read here last night it has something to do w/the hazard flasher button,so i now push that once or twice when the blinkers act up,and it seems to fix the issue...till the next time!!and lastly,if it's advertised somewhere for 23xxx,they have to give you that price regardless!!make a copy of it and take it w/you if you still plan on buying the car,but get that stuff fixed by them, not out of your pocket!good luck!

I don't have to be nice, and I don't really see any reason why I should be, but I will be.

AFAIK, however, under Florida law, any contract is breakable within three business days. Or so I've been told.

Florida doesn't have any automotive inspections. I read about the hazard blinker, too...I've been tapping it. Doesn't seem to help. When it wants to work, it does, when it doesn't, it doesn't.
