I have seen many a 350Z on a road course - they are no match for a Z06 - on a short auto-x it would come down to the driver, as power is of little value, a stripped down Honda Civic can beat a Vette if the Auto-X is set up tight, and the Honda has better suspension and tires.
There is always a faster car, and a better driver.
Les
Heard that Les, and seen it many of times at several events. Specially with a car that is not only set up with suspension but is not over powered so they can hammer it out of turns and not have to feather the peddles from having to much power.
maybe an 01 Z for $25k and a few mods - and its just as quick..got my 01 2 yrs ago for $36 with 4k mi on it-a few mods done, and i think its been the best bang for buck vette i've ever owned...and i've owned a few cars in my 42 yrs of drivin'....
It's very interesting that the best case in all of the posts above is made in behalf of a modded Supra. Not surprising, now that I think of it. I sold a modded '94 Supra (PowerHouse Racing single and goodies) for $31K just before buying my ZO6 18 months ago. I miss the unique nature of the car, the reactions it got, and the kick in the pants associated with the turbo kicking in above 4,000 rpm, though it was certainly not as driveable as the Corvette is.
While I never tracked my Supra and can't compare it to the ZO6 in that arena, I must say that the ZO6 is the far superior autocrosser. Weight and the challenges of modulating the throttle work against the Supra. I doubt there are many--maybe none--Supras running street mod nationally that can keep up with a well driven street mod 2 ZO6, and probably not with a well driven asp or super stock ZO6. That's just based on observation.

But the Supra is one hell of a car.
Very true Jim. The Supra was definately a challenge to auto-x. I remember you from the Supraforums. There are several of us that have made the switch from a Supra to a Z06. You should take the Z06 to VIR sometime. I was there in March and plan on being there a couple of times a year. I usually go with Steve Jarvis who is still tracking his Supra. I don't think I will ever be able to convert him
Just remembered that Kent Rafferty successfully ran a Supra in auto-x and won S/M nationals several years ago in a BPU car. I doubt anyone else will ever match that.
