Mine's a manual and I daily drive, thru traffic. I wouldn't have it any other way. I honestly think a sports car should always be a manual.

Well I have had a 78 Pace Car with an auto for about 20 years and although I love it deeply each time I drive it something always seemed to be missing and I knew deep down that I wish to was a standard. So, when I retired I promised myself to buy a 03 AE with a 6 speed. Now that I have the both, I can say there is nothing like running through the gears or finding a windy road and just plain having fun with the 6 speed. Having both a auto and 6 speed I can honestly say the 6 speed is more fun for me. BTW, I'm going through the second childhood phase of my life and enjoying every minute with both vettes.

Auto for me. A 6 speed is nice too, but that would get old quick, living here in NY.

To me the fun factor can't be beat with a manual. Although there are many other factors that must be considered (for some) on which one to get. Mine is not a DD and the traffic around here is not crazy like it is in some big cities. Whichever one that makes it the most enjoyable for you is the one to get..

Six is better than four. For the infirm, I can only wish you better health.
Besides, it's really tough to rap it when you're sitting at the light outside a ricer laden burger stand with an auto.
I'll show you a second childhood!

I personally don't think the cars feels like a sports car unless its a manual, but if I had to drive it everyday in traffic I would probably change my mind. My DD is an auto.

manual... much more enjoyment out of it....

this is coming from a guy that spend 1.5 hours today to get to work (traffic)..... the c5's clutch is very smooth and soft (compared to my sold cars) that and the torque the engine has, makes it easy to drive.

Manual. It is just so much more responsive and so much more control.

If that's the case, then you should be comparing 5 to 4. Your sixth is just an overdrive, just like the auto's overdrive.

Now I wonder how you all feel as far as maintenance is concerned. I've heard the A4 puts less stress on the drivetrain so there are less reliability issues with the a4 model Vettes. I also wonder about replacing things, because to replace the entire transmission with a built one in the A4, it's about 2 grand from FLP. Simply replacing just the CLUTCH seems to be a 1500 parts and labor job.

Mrs. EscapePod (who bought me the 2001 C5 for Christmas 2000) says no Corvettes should come with an automatic (she has ridden with me on track days, and knows I have mastered heal & toe, and would have more fun with the M6).

BTW -- she traded in my '93 with the automatic (which I frequently miss -- both car and automatic).

It's totally a personal preference thing. However, if I wanted an automatic, I would have bought a Cadillac.

My choice was easy. When I discussed the purchase of my new C6 with the wife her comment was "as long as you get the automatic". Nuff said.

dear...

Manual... But I'm not a wuss and have to drive an auto...

That was for you guys making cracks about our MN6's!!

In the Vette I prefer a manual but my DD is an auto... the manual is more fun...imho!! To rev that baby in a downtown area between some buildings.. it just sounds sweet... Oh yeah!! I know I can do that with an auto.. but you'd have to plan ahead for it...

Bottom line is buy what you can drive and are comfortable with... Who cares what I think... If you can't drive a stick, it won't be much fun...

Oh and to the person who made the statement you gotta learn sometime and asked where we learned?? I was 8 years old driving on the farm... nothing but manuals on everything we owned... and ya had to learn YOUNG!!
