Either transmission is a good choice in a Vette. I personally have had two six speed cars, but there have been times when I sure wish I had the automatic. If you drive in heavy traffic, the auto may be the better choice. A slight performance advantage to the manual, but the auto is no slouch.
I'm thrilled with my A4 and I won't "appologize" for it. I will say that I would prefer to have an SMG transmission or even paddle/gate shift auto so I could have the best of both worlds.
As you said "prefer", just because you prefer a 6-speed doesn't mean you can outshift an A4.....
Yes it is really a preference issue. The difference b/w the two is too small to worry about. Now with that said I must be a good shifter because Im not losing to A4s all the time.. Mabey the computer was on break.

Well, what sucks about the A4's is it's either the 2.73 gears or the 3.15's and mines 3.15's, I wish they came with the same gears as the 6-speed......then it's be a different story.
But a good driver/shifter should be able to take a A4, at least off the line for sure.
Too bad you're in Houston and me Dallas, I like a good challenge.
You still stock? What's your best 1/8 and 1/4 times?

I am in Dallas all the time. I race in Ennis usually which I am sure you are familiar with. I have been doing more car shows lately so have been focused on looks. I have done alot of bolt-on mods and suspension work. Your car looks good i will keep an eye out for you and be sure to wave
The narrow minded really seem to come out of the woodwork on these auto vs. manual threads. It's not necessary to give examples.......their responses are self evident.
IMHO: Love the manny and the sport feel in engine control etc., and, better gas mileage, too. However, in stop and go commuter traffic, and, up a hill no less, it can be a pain. But, I still would not switch.
I forgot to say the ONE time I wanted an Auto was when I was in a parade that was over two miles long.. I hated slipping the clutch that much!! Haven't been to one since... but would consider a shorter one...
Mine is a MN6 and also my daily driver in heavy traffic. I guess it's just one of those things that in my mind a sports car should be one that requires shifting... but that's just a personal opinion. I totally understand why others would want A4's, especially if they have physical limitations where and A4 makes more sense.
I've had numerous cars--both automatic and manual. Mine (2002 coupe) is an automatic and I love it. I live in Dallas and enjoy cruising without the hassle of shifting--especially in traffic.
Usually you get a better feel for your Vette with the M6. And besides, a Vette is a Sports car, and all great Sports cars are better with the manual. No tranny computers to screw up on you!
