I got an automatic because it is a daily driver and a convert, plus sometimes I drive my fathers Z06 which has 480hp so my Vette doesn't seem like a sports car compared to that.
I think my children won't even know what a clutch is, I predict paddle shifting from Ferraries and SMG type transmissions like in BMW M3's will trickle down to all cars that are "manual". They can shift much faster than any human and eliminate the foot clutch.
I am in Dallas all the time. I race in Ennis usually which I am sure you are familiar with. I have been doing more car shows lately so have been focused on looks. I have done alot of bolt-on mods and suspension work. Your car looks good i will keep an eye out for you and be sure to wave
back at ya my friend, I want to get up to Ennis but it's closed to street drivers for the rest of the year....
I'm not really modded yet, just vararam right now and some stingers and X-pipe on the way as we speak.
Let me know next time you're up at Ennis, I've been wanting to get my mirror black beauty up there for a little while now.
If I can't look up and see the sky and it is not a manual then as far as I am concerned it is not a sports car.
A real driving enthusiast would not have an auto in my opinion not matter how heavy the traffic nor hilly the terrain( medical conditions and genetic deformities excepted). But then I'm only a woman so what do I know....
12 major surgeries on my knee (no arthroscopy) and a shattered right wrist..(I used to race motorcylces professionally) and I love my 6 speed. I drive in DC traffic and while not fun but is not too bad with the stick. I can't wait to push it through the gears the rest of the time.

It is a sports car. Chevrolet should not even offer an automatic. Mine is a daily driver in traffic.
I Agree a vette without a stick your just cheating yourself out of the pleasures of driveing a sports car and every thing that goes with it. its not always about whats faster but the feel of knowing your realy in compleate control .
I like the auto, when you stomp on it, you are always in the right gear, and never miss a shift! For the sheer fun of it, the M6 can't be beat, though. I'm surprised that the Z06 guys haven't rebelled, knowing that since they can't see the sky, they aren't driving sports cars....
It's really a matter of preference. I've had a manual before and now I miss it. I get to bored when driving, shifting gives me something to do. It really depends on the person and the drive as well.
Depends on what you enjoy, that's mainly why you bought it. For me it's an A4 hands down and best of both worlds. Easy when i want it, run through the gears with a lot of noise and power when i want it.
For those juvi's here that say an A4 is not a sports car, you probably aren't old enough to remember when most sports cars were manual but also convertibles. But then i think Corvette realized people have different tastes and provided what they want in several different flavors.
To me a true sports car will always be a convertible, a coupe is...well guess that's another poll...
see the truth is.... most of these guys with an a4 can't drive a manual. So they make up some funny excuses. =)
I on the other hand have 3 cars and all of them manual including my daily driver. I have heavy traffic almost everyday (sf). Then again I am european and thats all we got.
Why would someone in this world, buy a sports car with an auto?!?!?!? wherest the "sports" in that. I belive thats what suv's and soccer mom vans are for.

Why don't you ask GM, they think they have it figured out. Maybe you could set them straight.
recently switched from a4 camaro to z06. I love shifting (even though I am not that good at it, z06 is my first stick car). uphill stop and go is a bit of a chore but not a big deal.
Driving a Vette with an automatic is like having a Rolls Royce with a 6-speed. It's a sports car for God's sake. Maybe I'm old school, but get rid of all the fancy-shmancy gizmo's and give me a car that performs. Personally, I don't care if I can tell where I'm at on GPS or have a stereo with 20 speakers that rattles windows for blocks. I'm quite happy just listening to my motor.
Automatic out of consideration to my wife, and to the fact that if
it was a manual she would fry the clutch, abuse every moving part
in the transaxle and cause catastrophic failure on a regular basis.
