Amusing comments. I love the one "Chevrolet shouldn't build an automatic Vette". What do you think the original 1953-55's were only.
Personally, I got over stick shifts years ago. Give me an auto, especially an A6 with paddle shift.

Daily Driver = Automatic

Fun Car = 6 Speed.

The Vette is a 6 speed....Jeep is an automatic.....

Auto with a 3500 Yank TQ/3:42 rear gears is hard to beat especially in traffic.

Why would someone in this world, buy a sports car with an auto?!?!?!? wherest the "sports" in that. I belive thats what suv's and soccer mom vans are for.
I can drive a manual, I just don't want to on my normal C5. I like driving manuals on cars with upwards of 500 horsepower, but my C5 convert is just not that much power to warrant an old fashioned manual.

A4 is definetly for the dragstrip and for driving in traffic. If you prefer to drive slolom, skid pad, or canyon runs, a manual is a must. A reason that I dont like an A4 is that you cant hold 3rd when you need to. Also, using an A4 to down shift is undesireable and very limited- nothing like letting the clutch out at your desired rate in lower gears.
I am converting from an A4 to an MN6 because of this. The A4 is just plain boring!

I thing a manual is the only way to go in a Vette, for me at least.

Auto Corvette makes me sick

I would definetly go with 6 speed.Since it`s a sports car that`s what u need. But unfortunately stock shifter is terrible. It doesn`t make u feel u got a sport transmission. U have to get a short shifter. For the quick, and perfect feeling of shifting(hurst,ripper,etc.).But of course this is my opinion.
Note; U know Z06 comes in just 6 spd.Have u ever thought why?Think about that. The power should be under your finger tips. You got to feel it.

I think the best safest way to answer this is

1- what are you going to use the car for, how often, etc...

2- Test drive both a few times

I love my 6 speed, and it's a daily driver (sometimes stop and go traffic) between April and November. I choose the six speed also because for modding it can be cheaper, for example if you want to change rear-gears no re-program is needed... you are the torque converter and don't need to change torque converters when you up your HP etc.. (okay so you might need a new clutch ) I love rowing through the gears. Also, I like the standard 342 gear that comes with all MN6's... the A4 has a slumpy 273 gear, or 315 as an option.

All that said, there is absolutley nothing bad about having an A4, there are advantages with that to,,, easier launch at drag strip, less stress on the car when doing a burn out (no dumpiing clutch) Maybe easier to drive in daily traffice etc....

Get what works for you

Let me know next time you're up at Ennis, I've been wanting to get my mirror black beauty up there for a little while now.

My bride is no hot rod, but there's no way she'd have an auto in "her" vette.

Manual here and a Daily Driver.

To me it's just more fun to drive a powerful car when you're in complete control of it....makes driving to work fun!

My whole theory is...

When you see a corvette around town whos driving it?
Exactly!!!, a retiree that just wanted to buy his dream car, that he always wanted as a kid =). I belive for this reason GM knows the category of people that "usually" drive these cars. Now don't flame me I know there is plenty of youngsters driving ..... (me) . But in all honesty most can't afford it.

Also This country has been running automatics forever. Many don't even know how to drive a manual. Of course they will come out with an auto for our "special" guests to make their sales mark count. I just don't agree with em thats all.

Now if my wife did not know how to drive a manual or I hated the traffic, i'd have to go with the sc430 lexus or maybe a X5 BMW not a "sports" car what fun is it to shift your auto from 1,2,3,D lol...it makes no difference anyway.

Now whoever said "why does the zo6 not come out with a auto!"
That would be exactly my point why not?
Why don't LAMBO's have automatics?
Or why doesent Ferrari make a 300K sports car with a automatic tranny? lol some of you crack me up...

Maybe I am wrong, Im a good listener but please prove me wrong here?

Heyyyyyy wait a minute here,In the the beginning of this thread you will see I drive a 18 speed dump trailer or 8speed dump truck 8 to 9 hours a day 5 days a week shifting all freakin day long, when the weekend comes I want to relax in my vette without shifting And I like to bracket race at E-town,An auto is easier to bracket race IMO.

I would think a manual shift vette would be more prone to be beat to sh#t since some of them are driven daily for the thrill of it all and are more prone to abuse than an auto shifter. So I would plug that in if your looking for a used vette. I've seen some low mile Z06's with less than 30K miles that were fried already. I'm not saying that a stick shift is bad, they are actually more fun to drive for "spirited driving" and like said before for auto cross, mountian country driving they are more practical. In Traffic a stick sucks, The thrill will be gone real fast IMO.

The manual offers a few less pounds to lug around, and would be more "fun", I suppose. But, I found a really nice C5 that came with an automatic. Still fun enough of a car to me make the transmission issue a moot point. But, I'd get whichever one you want, and not worry about what we think. Mine is an auto because it was with the car that had the best price for the condition of the car. If it had been a 6-speed instead, I'd be just as happy.

Manual.

Reasons:

a) I feel manual cars are simply more fun to drive.
b) I drive manual cars better. With automatics I tend to day-dream.
c) I feel I have more control of the car with a manual.
d) I know manual transmissions better, how they work, etc.
e) No feeling compares to running through the gears in a fast car, or being able to drop the hammer yourself. Not wait for any transmission to downshift for you.
