Most A4 3.15's will beat most 6-speeds due to driver shifting.
I'm glad you said "most". At the dragstrip, the only time I need my clutch is launching off the line ---- no need to touch it during the next two shifts.
Actually, fifth and sixth gear are overdrives in the manual tranny.
Really? I thought the 5th was still a torque gear. Well damn, that makes my decision for an auto that much easier. So do autos get that much less gas mileage on the highway?

Probably not much less, if any at all. The very best I ever got, cruising between 75 and 80 on the way to the Corvette Museum, was 33 MPG in North Georgia.
Usually, back in FL, the best I get is the 28 MPG the General's CAFE figures claim.
(there is plenty of torque in 5th --- that's what gets you to 174 MPH)

I've beating 6-speeds at the strip, and at speed, it all comes down to how fast and how well you shift and no one can outshift a computer.

33 mpg on an auto? Unheard of, but I'll believe you. I like it.
I'll have to keep an eye on this thread. This topic usually ends up getting heated!!
Personally, I wouldn't want a Corvette with anything other than a manual transmission. I have owned over 10 Corvettes and Muscle Cars through the years and they all had a clutch pedal and stick shift!
However, To Each...His Own!!!!
If you don't want a manual, why would you even want a Corvette. It would be like getting a motorcycle with 4 wheels.

If you hadn't read already some of us have debilitating injuries or illnesses that make driving a stick that much harder for us. We'd like to be in a c5, so some of us have to negotiate with ourselves to an auto, since we're limited in our abilities.
It shifts, faster, better, smoother and more precise then any Manual C5......."nuff said".....

Where are you getting this stuff...
I have had a manual and auto and prefer the manual. If your vette is a Daily Driver then you may want to consider the auto for comfort. If its not a DD or you dont care then get a manual. The poll says it all

What year vette was you auto??
As you said "prefer", just because you prefer a 6-speed doesn't mean you can outshift an A4.....
