No, this thread is not about the biggest speeding ticket in the history of Corvettes...
Last weekend the East Coast Timing Association organized their last speed trial for this year. The track is on a runway of the old Laurinburg/Maxton, NC airport. One has one mile to accelarate, then the speed is measured, and one has another mile to brake. The actual track can be seen on the second, third, and fifth pictures at the horizon.
The track from above...
Inspection of my 2001 MN6 C5 by the race director, Keith Turk...
Please note that my speed was limited to 150 mph...
Ready to go...
There were some exotic cars...
...but most participants had bikes
The result: A new record in the "Unblown Grand Touring Sportscar/GT" class for 306 thru 372 cid (5.01 to 6.10 L) "C"...

Man we did that at the old navel station out here and I clocked a 172 4 times and a 178.8 once.... I wonder what size runway you guys had. Did you say they limited your speed? I don't understand. oh BTW welcome to the over 150 mph club!

Sorry to play spelling police, but my smart aleck personality just wouldn't let me pass it up!

My best mark is 172 mph (276 km/h) and with the top off. That's what the speedometer said at least, i wonder what was the real speed i hit . Things happen really fast when you travel at those insane speeds

this is great! we read too frequently here all the threads here of folks who need to prove something to themselves or someone else (typically a perfect stranger) by racing & driving wrecklessly on public roads; these sort of stunts are stupid, illegal, and dangerous to all concerned---particularly to innocent bystanders. regardless of how these narrow-minded folks try to justify it, they are wrong.
now this thread however is a totally different matter. this is precisely where you take the car & give it a good workout. frankly if i had known about this or similar events, i'd have taken mine there & run it. for those with something to prove (really now?) find this type of event & have a blast. but please, don't give corvette drivers in general a black eye by driving like an idiot on public roads. bub

OK Robb, I've got loads of questions:
1. Where exactly is this place? (I'll google-map it later.)
2. Are roll cages or bars required?
3. How often do they do this each year?
4. Must the car be an NC-registered vehicle (i.e., NC state inspection)?
5. What prep is required (e.g., taking all the loose stuff out as in an AX)?
6. When is the first one next season/year?
7. What does it cost the participant?
We'll start with those...

Ah-Hah! About 20 miles inland from Lumberton! Perfect! My Dad lives in Sunset Beach (south of Wilmington and on the other side of I-95. On my next trip down it could be a viable experience!

I have to do this! Must have been a blast. (and legal too) Could you have gone faster with more space? I thought the stock coupe will run about 175?
