Has anyone tried this, pay the ticket but make sure to pay alittle more than you owe that way they will have to issue a refund ck, then dont cash the refund ck so the books stay open and it dosn't show up on your record untill oyu cash the ck.
I have driven my 01 coupe to San Antonio and back to El Paso three times doing 90-100 mph with no problems well maybe one problem, the miles, so I bought a '99 Durango. Well tonight driving to SA I get tagged in Sonora doing 82 in a 65 !!! $179 !!! I hope my ins. rates don't go up. Does anyone know how to get out of this? I can't show up in court because of work. I let him know that I was MILITARY and served in Iraqi Freedom, he didn't give a u know what.

I would be ashammed of my self. Because you were in the military, you feel you should have gotten off? I respect what our soliders have done, but to come home and have the attitude of being able to speed and feel you shouldn't be ticketed is crazy.
I think you should wait for a court date then get your mummy to send a note to the judge.
In this note you can explain that you're too busy to attend on that day and, besides that, even though you habitually exceed the speed limit, the laws of the land do not apply to you because you were MILITARY and that you anticipate that the court will treat you in an appropriate manner.

Not saying that will happen, but I've seen it...
Just FYI... keep flashing your Military ID if you get stopped... Lots of LEO's wont ticket ya if your a vet... I know I don't... unless your DUI.. (which NOBODY should be)... but even then... I try my damndess to find a way to get Vets home without an arrest...
I've also seen the other side of the Vets.... the guys that give the rest of you a bad name... Pulled a Marine over for drunk driving... I try and give him a break.... and he starts saying "You stupid civilians don't know anything about what its like, I'm on leave and cant get arrested right now"... me, having served in the Armed Forces... didn't appreciate that, but still let it slide... so I tried AGAIN to get the guy to understand I was attempting to give him a break, told him I was in the Navy before, and he said... "OHHHH, that explains it... Navy aint the Military"... Then the guy stood up and squared his shoulders up on me... (big mistake)... Unfortunately he left me no choice... DUI, trip to jail... military or not.. your not killing anybody with your 3000 lb car on my watch...

I'm a retired Naval officer, and as much as I respect what the military members are doing in Iraq and other places, I can't for the life of me understand why you'd let them off just because they are in the service or are veterans.
Is it any safer for them to violate speed laws than it is for anyone else? And tickets are supposed to be for safety, nothing else.

Yeah, the military line and OIF only work so much......It's OIF 4 now, how many times do you think they heard it??? My wife used it successfully while I was over there, because she got pulled over on the way to pick me up for R&R.
The best advice I can give you is this: mature.......there's no reason to make a long trip like that at 90-100 mph. I'm not saying I don't speed at all, that would be hypocritical, but if I get a ticket I pay it and drive on. Keep it at a decent speed and life will be more enjoyable. Besides, how fun is it to drive fast in an SUV??
p/s: I'm sure your commander will enjoy the extra paperwork and ***-chewing he'll get from HIS boss. I'm sure it will be okay if you put down that your were planning to drive that fast on your risk assessment though
You made a mistake and now you have to pay for it. Why should the cop let you off because you served in the military??? Pay the ticket---it's the right thing to do.
This thread is unbelievable. Pay the damn ticket! If you worry about getting a ticket and then wonder if your insurance will go up then dont speed. Of course your insurance will go up, it's a moving violation...
All you have to do is call the judge, tell him/her your going to take a defensive driving class for this violation. They always agree, and give you up to 3 months to complete the class. Then take the class online, rent the video, or attend an actual class. Then send your certificate of completion and pay the court fee $10. No record.
