Default Speeding Ticket

I have driven my 01 coupe to San Antonio and back to El Paso three times doing 90-100 mph with no problems well maybe one problem, the miles, so I bought a '99 Durango. Well tonight driving to SA I get tagged in Sonora doing 82 in a 65 !!! $179 !!! I hope my ins. rates don't go up. Does anyone know how to get out of this? I can't show up in court because of work. I let him know that I was MILITARY and served in Iraqi Freedom, he didn't give a u know what.

Pleade no contest, Pay the fine, take deffensive driving, and fax the completion certificate to the court clearks office, or mail them their copy.

noooooooooo do NOT Pay the ticket!!! Find an attorney that deals with speeding tickets and they will most likely charge you between $60-$90 to take care of it for you. They go to court for you and everything. By paying the ticket you are pleading guilty to the offense and then you get points on your license. Accumulation of these points can lead to suspension of license or a trip to driving school. Trust me I have had at least 6 or 7 speeding tickets and I only had to pay court fees ($150)one time out of all my tickets! Around here there is a place called Ticket Defense Team. Find yourself a similar place in your area!! With this method I am telling you, no points on your license and no traffic school!!

I feel your pain. I got a ticket for 78 in a 65 at 10:30 pm after Thanksgiving going through Baird on my way back to CA. LEO didn't care that I'm a veteran. I sure couldn't return to fight it in court and I couldn't go to traffic school because I have a commercial license. So I paid the $178. fine and keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't show up on my insurance.
The advice I seen given to you may help in your case..Good luck and THANKS for serving our great country..

Do the crime, pay the fine... its part of the risk of going that fast... its not like you weren't speeding.... you just got unlucky and got caught... I've seen the "Im a veteran" defense in court, and the judge said, "Then you should have the good sense not to go so fast"..

Not saying that will happen, but I've seen it...

Just FYI... keep flashing your Military ID if you get stopped... Lots of LEO's wont ticket ya if your a vet... I know I don't... unless your DUI.. (which NOBODY should be)... but even then... I try my damndess to find a way to get Vets home without an arrest...

I've also seen the other side of the Vets.... the guys that give the rest of you a bad name... Pulled a Marine over for drunk driving... I try and give him a break.... and he starts saying "You stupid civilians don't know anything about what its like, I'm on leave and cant get arrested right now"... me, having served in the Armed Forces... didn't appreciate that, but still let it slide... so I tried AGAIN to get the guy to understand I was attempting to give him a break, told him I was in the Navy before, and he said... "OHHHH, that explains it... Navy aint the Military"... Then the guy stood up and squared his shoulders up on me... (big mistake)... Unfortunately he left me no choice... DUI, trip to jail... military or not.. your not killing anybody with your 3000 lb car on my watch...

If you take deffensive driving it does NOT go onto your record and you do NOT get points taken off of your license in Texas. Trust me I've been pulled over more than once in my driving career and between Deffensive driving and Differed Adjudication I've managed to keep them all off of my record. So in theory you can get up to 2 tickets a year and not have anything bad happen to your record.

Hire a lawyer? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA.. I wouldnt do business with whatever ambulance chaser has nothing better to do then get speeding tickets dismissed for blatanty guilty people.

I say take diffensive driving of get differed adjudication. (If you can get differed then you dont have to take a class. Just dont get caught speeding again for 120 days)

If they offer the option of taking a defensive driving course and the ticket won't appear on your record, take it. Otherwise, you admit you were speeding - pay the fine and move on. Next time, perhaps slow down to the legal limit (or closer to it). Sorry you got ticketed, but that's the risk you take.

Seems to me that your insurance rates need to go up if this is normal driving to you. You should pay higher premiums to offset those of us that won't need the insurance as often.

If you have no other moving violation, pay the fine, take the driving schoo. and it should sty off your record.

Thanks for serving my brother....the guy must have been a Ted Kennedy or John Kerry fan!!

I've done this many times (traffic tickets and court, that is) DO NOT just pay it. Go to court. Show up in full dress uniform, and plead guilty. If your record is even somewhat clean you will most likely get a reduction in speed if not probation. If you dont cop an attitude and be argumentative, the worst thing that will happen is everything stands.

Edit, read the part about not being able to make it. Typically if you have a court date, you can request a new date if you have prior obligations and you can prove it. This isnt a bad idea anyway as it increases your chances of the cop not showing up.

With all due respect, maybe you should slow down. After all, if you get stopped for 20 to 30 over the limit, wtf do you expect? I'm no perfect angel on the highways sometimes, but if I got tagged for that kind of speed, I'd say I deserved it. And although I respect and appreciate your military service, I don't understand why there's this mentality that thinks it should exempt you from the laws. Just my $.02...

if they give you that option. Paying for the Ticket is an admission of guilt and will put points on your license. Driving school and a no contest plea will not (IN most states). The only exception would be if you really did something stupid, like 110 in a 55. Then you are an idiot and deserve the max punishment
