My wonderful wife gave me a Spring Mountain 3 day course for my birthday. I was suppose to go next month, but I broke my ankle and cannot drive for 2 months. She rescheculed for September. Now my questions. She is concerned about lodging (she is going with me, but not driving). Is the drive from Vegas everyday too far? Is the lodging in Pahrump substandard (she is spoiled, and will remain so)? Suggestions from those who know. My questions are. Is it worthwhile? Is it fun? I have my own helmet and driving shoes, should I take these? Anything else I might need to take or know about to get the most out of this experience? Thanks!
It is very worthwhile! My wife and I did it a few years ago. Stay in Pahrump, imho - the course is fairly demanding physically & you will not feel like getting in a car and driving for an hour to get back to your hotel.
I'm staying in Vegas because my wife got me the course for Christmas, booked the trip, and will pack my bag So considering all she's done for me, when she said let's stay in Vegas, I yielded. Going the last week in April. PM me in May and I'll fill you in. Hope you have a speedy recovery
I'm in Pahrump usually once a month and stay at the Nugget, which is a 2-star hotel. Not bad, but if you're used to the Bellagio, then you won't find anything like that there. My friends stay at the Best Western and say it's a little nicer than the Nugget. I don't care for Saddlewest. The drive from Spring Mtn. to Vegas can be 1 hour+, sometimes even more...traffic along Blue Diamond Hwy. can be REALLY bad during certain parts of the day. I sat in bumper-bumper traffic heading to Pahrump on Friday morning for over an hour....lots of construction going on and only 2 lanes. My vote would be to stay in Pahrump and forego the drive.
Now, the good news: I heard over the weekend at Viper Days that there are new hotels being planned for Pahrump, one was even rumored to be adjacent to the track! Hot-Dog!!
Another word of warning: After the end of April, temps start to climb rapidly, so check weather.com for average temps during the time of year you are planning to attend.
I'd spoil the wife and stay in Vegas. There won't be much for her do in Pahrump during the day.
The class is definitely worthwhile and a lot of fun. Only had to wear a helmet on the third day but I would take your helmet since you have one and most definitely take the shoes. Don't forget sunglasses either.

I agree.
If your wife spoiled you with a 3 day Spring Mountain event you owe it to her to stay in Vegas.
Congrats on gettingthe course.. to your wife. Trust me on this one.. stay in Vegas. its not that far and you will end up going there every night because Pahrump is quite possibly the most boring town in the world.
I figured that you might as well stay in Vegas because you will be there every night anyway. I have been to the course there twice and stayed in Pahrump the first time and learned my lesson.. Have a great time.

If you are taking the wife along you should stay in Vegas. It is about an hours drive from Pahrump. Pahrump is not completely dead, but if you're looking for lots of things to do then Vegas is where the action is.
The bad thing is that you are gonna have to get up early every morning and make the drive to class. And after driving all day in class you are gonna have to go back to Vegas.
I'm going back to Spring Mountain in April. I am staying in Pahrump during the class and staying in Vegas a couple nights after class ends.
I offered a vacation to the wife where she would fly out after the class ended and we could spend time in Vegas together. Unfortunately she can't get the time off from work.
