Mini Reversing Camera

The camera can be battery powered but the control unit needs 12v DC. Its designed to be plugged in to a domestic socket using a power pack. I'm guessing if I snip the wire and go one lead to a switched supply and the other to ground that should work? Anyone done this?
I've seen the installation in the eye level stop light housing. I was thinking of fitting it just above the number plate. I want it central, out of the weather but accessible so I can change the battery. Any other ideas on where to fit it?
I thought of a few other places but they all stand out - the 3rd brake light is by far the most subtle

Finally got the camera installed and hooked up to the car power
I thought this fit was quite subtle:

Were you successful in using the car's D.C. power/ground setup? If not, how are you getting power to the receiver?
Any idea how long the 9v battery would last powering the camera?
Is that setup really only $29.95? That's crazy-low.
How's the quality? 380 lines sounds like it should be ok.
Thanks,
Chris

Were you successful in using the car's D.C. power/ground setup? If not, how are you getting power to the receiver? I hooked up the receiver directly to the 12v supply. I had to run a hot wire back to the camera in the rear and grounded at the radio antenna. The camera needed a Zener diode to limit the DC to 8v. Oscarav098 gave me the advice
Any idea how long the 9v battery would last powering the camera? Sadly only 24 hrs so I had to hook up the power.

Thanks,
Chris
