No comparison to me. I like the lines of the vert, top down especially, over any other model of Corvette. And nothing beat dropping the top and cruising. Of course, that's why I bought one. Drive them both and take the one you like the best.
When I was about to buy my 03AE I was in the same position you are currently in. Here was the logic I used in making my choice. If I was going to use it as a DD, then the coupe was going to be my choice since I was not thrilled with keeping the top clean and the possibility of hearing noise from the rag top did not thrill me either. (BTW I bought a vert and there is no noise). If I was going to use the vette on weekends and special occassions and wanted to reallyfeel young again, then It was going to be the vert. Well, I bought the vert since the thought of being old does not sit well with me.
Oh, 2 other things came into my decision that you probably will not have to deal with.
1. I also have a 78 Corvette Pace car with T tops which I considered close to, in loose terms, the roof concept of the coupe. So I figured I already had a coupe.
2. I am retired and in all my life I never had the nerve to own a vert (I'm really conserative and always thought owning a vert was how should I say it, beign a little flashy, but no more).
The bottom line is that it's your choice but no matter which you pick you will love it. People buy things based on their likes, needs or dislikes and no to individuals are exactly the same.
can't bring myself to decide if I should hold out for a coupe or go for the vert.(although know I will be happy with either one!!) Thanks!
rcs128 had good advice on some of the pro's & con's. Kinda sounds like a coupe is your first choice. The way you are going to drive it you would probably love a vert too. Maybe some more pics will help...DBGM close to black in some light. I always thought of a vette as a Vert but the Coupe is really great looking too. Good Luck, when in doubt ask the Wife
A Vert with the top up looks like you put a bandaged on it too keep out the elements..
Vert with the top down looks nice...
Vert with the top up is noisy/// much more noisy than a coupe..
Top off a coupe is almost feels as nice as a Vert, I said almost...
Top off a coupe looks almost as nice as a Vert
Top on a Coupe looks right, looks complete... not bandaged.
If you ever own a vert you will never have any thing else. My 1st vert was a BMW 325IC which I still have. Buy the hard top and you have 2 cars in 1. When the vette was born what was it. It was a vert one of many to come!!
My vote is for the vert. I bought a 98 vert in November and live in New Hampshire. Like you, use is limited, but it's still my preference. One word of advice, before buying, be sure to put the top down and check for paint damage where the top meets the deck. From what I understand it is quite common to have paint damage there (my vette had some). That being said, the top is well made and provides for a reasonably quiet ride.
Hey guys, looking at buying a 99 blk vert, I was originally looking for coupe, but now am torn since I really like the convertible. Would appreciate any advice/suggestions from the experts,(any problems with removable panels etc..) as this will be my first one and can't bring myself to decide if I should hold out for a coupe or go for the vert.(although know I will be happy with either one!!) Thanks!
Perhaps you should base your decision upon where you live. I reside in New England, where even the springtime and the fall can be lousy, like this year. (I don't drive the car in the winter.) In the summer I use the glass roof, and during spring and fall the standard one.
Now, my point is that when I run without the roof, I enjoy the open air ride immensely. There is, of course, an accommodation in the trunk to store the roof, for re-installation if it begins to rain or something. The only adverse situation is that, a coupe running without a top in place exposes the wide trunk cavity behind the seats, which is bound to be highly resistant to smooth airflow. How it affects gas milage I don't know.
Finally, "blacksedan87" has excellent advice too, and if I lived in a climate like that found in sunny AZ, I too would strongly consider a convertible. However, in my circumstance in CT, I feel that I can enjoy the best of both worlds with a cpe.
Enjoy your ride!!!!!!!!!

As someone who has owned ragtops off and on for the last 30 years (in other words, as long as I've been driving), I was AMAZED, yes AMAZED at how quiet my vert is with the top up, compared to any other convertible I've owned. The 5 layer top is terrific and couldn't be easier to raise or lower -- pretty much. I get NO wind noise whatsoever when it is up and I am on the freeway. At least not up to 90 MPH.
So don't make any decisions until you've driven a vert. Top up, top down. It's damn near a religious experience.
My money's on the vert owners liking verts and the coupe owners liking the coupes.
OMG what about the FRCs!!!
I'm getting a removable hardtop for the best of both worlds.
I don't think you can go wrong owning any model of vette.
Use the force to help you decide, then don't forget to
