Welcome Ian, keep saving that money. I gave a ride today to a kid that was around your age, though he looked a lot older. I had to go to a funeral ( which was a terrible tragedy, one of my friends passed way too young ) and one of the cousins of the deceased wanted to ride in my car. I think he enjoyed it, i remember being that age and my dad took me for a ride in a vette he was considering buying and it was the coolest thing ever. No matter what age you are your never too young or too old to appreciate a Vette. Keep on with your dream and someday you will fulfill it just like the rest of us did.

When my stepdad first drove me in his vette, I had butterflies like no other. The thing was FLYING and the acceleration was insane. I loved every minute of it. American muscle V8's are the only way to go Or a supra pulling 1000+ hp with a GM Powerglide 2 speed auto trans(w00t). Ever since I saw Markovich duroji's White supra, I was in love with em. He was running about 1520 rwhp with 35 PSI I believe.

An 05+ GTO will be on par with a base C5 Corvette. GTO's are pigs and tip the scales at 3,800lbs with a full tank of gas. Every 100 lbs of weight equals roughly .1 second in the quarter-mile. Not to mention they are held by back torque management. The fastest of the 05+'s are getting high 12's. A well driven base C5 can achieve the same times, and a Z06 will flat out smoke it. I love GTO's and seriously considered buying one, but I'm glad I chose the vette instead. Now if I were buying a second car, the GTO would be the first car I would look at.

PS - Welcome to the forum!

Ian, glad your stepdad took you on a "proper" ride, i had to do the same for the guy i gave a ride to today.

Eric, if you were going to get a "2nd car" why not get another Vette?

Besides, someone from this generation has to keep the passion of American Muscle alive ...fricken evo's and civics. Evo's can get quite nice though

Welcome, you are in the right place to learn about Corvettes.

Check the posts in all the forums and if you have a question -- ask it. There are some very smart Corvette specialists in this group. To bad I'm not one of them. [:0)

Welcome Ian. I used to live on Colorado (CO Springs and Denver) moved to NOR CAL about 2 months ago. Colorado weather is better than MI (also lived in Cleveland OH so I know what that is like!!) Just do me two favors. #1 Keep saving up to buy a Corvette you will not regret it!! and #2 is the most important......DON'T BECOME A WOLVERINES FAN!!
