I think all of you are spoiled brats!!! I have owned several vettes over the years...a 73 coupe, a 80, 81, 82, & 90. The C5 (2001) is the next best thing since sliced bread compared to these other cars. Agreed, its not perfect, but if it were perfect, what would you complain about? Probably the price, because it would cost $100,000.00 +. Only problem I see with the car is I can only get one female in it at time.
What could have been engineered and marketed smarter on the C5
- The fuel door button should have been next to the trunk release and fog light switches.
Agree.
- Premature seat track wear causing seat to rock forward and backward
Agree
- A stylish sport steering wheel like the newer Celica has. Did you ever see the stock Celica steering wheel? You wonder how they got the airbag tucked in there. It's very cool. The C5 "Pillow" wheel greatly lacks styling. GM was asleep at the wheel.
""So What""
- Piston slap should not be a topic of discussion for any car. How hard can it be to make a quiet engine consistently? GM is loosing many customers over that one. I know many people, former GM owners who won't consider another GM from that issued alone, experienced across many different GM models.
""Why does it make a difference?? There is nothing wrong with the engine only people who think they know something they really don't know.""
The biggest problem with the C5 is the copying of the ricer windshield wiper control. A lot better when it is combined with the headlight and cruise control stalk on the left side. Nothing I hate worse than looking like a ricer running around an autocross course with the windshield wipers on.
As for the seat belt tightening at the wrong time it can be an inconvenience to have to force yourself backwards at times to unlock it but it is a great feature when you are autocrossing or tracking the car and using the stock belts. One quick move of the car and the shoulder belt locks. That with the lap belt cinch feature really makes for a 3 point system that is hard to beat except with full racing harnesses. I wish the passenger side did the same making riders more comfortable so their upper bodies weren't flopping around so much.
I agree that there are several problems with the design of our C-5s but like others have said many can be remedied with solutions like CAGS Eliminator, CLB, Window Valet, Girl-in-A-box, etc.
When I first got my '02 vert I hit the wiper stalk numerous times by mistake but it is very rare that I do that anymore. I guess I just got used to avoiding it.
Even with its little problems I am very happy with my C-5. One of the greatest things about this forum and the internet is that manufacturers, whether original or aftermarket, can learn alot by monitoring the response of people like us so they can fine tune their products from one model year to the next.

Worst feature are the A/C vents that blow cold air on either side of me and not at me. I cannot angle the driver's door and center vents to get air on me with my seat position. I can't move the seat position without taping blocks onto the pedals or hitting knees on the wheel. Really annoying with the roof down in this weather, when you really need it to work.
I agree with the cupholder issue, the additional one solves that.
I wonder about the Cags problem. Maybe I shift at too high an RPM because it rarely comes up.
What RPM are you guys shifting at?
