speed ticket
If your driving record doesn't reflect similar/multiple past violations you might "get a deal". You can approach the prosecuting attorney before your court date and ask for consideration if your past driving record is relatively clean. Doing so reduces court costs and case loads.
Do not approach the officers to "help you out"...in many jurisdictions, that might be considered witness tampering.
A deal in your case might include (but not limited to) a fine, 2-3 points, mandatory traffic survival school, unsupervised probation, a restricted or suspended license and of coarse insurance increases.
If your driving record reflects a prior bad driving record, it might be a very high fine, additional points for the criminal offense, a revoked drivers license, jail, supervised probation, suspension of your vehicle registration and insurance increases.
If you have no defense for your actions, hire a lawyer...they love these cases. They pay for their Mercedes and swimming pools with the thousands of dollars they charge traffic case defendents. I'm not slamming attorneys, it's a fact. You will pay lots of money for professional representation with no guarantees. If a lawyer tells you he guarantees you'll walk with only a fine, get it in writing! He can appeal any decision by the court, but that costs more money.
I know how I'd defend myself, but I won't tell you w/o a $2500.00 non refundable retainer fee (I'm not a lawyer btw) and $350.00/hr court time, plus expenses for research, expert witnesses, etc

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Like many other members on this board our work required us to interface with lawyers on a daily basis. We know their tricks, thought processes and we know the law. I've seen to many citizens pay a lawyer hundreds or thousands of dollars thinking they were going to be completely forgiven for their sins. The truth is in many situations a citizen can get the same results w/o a lawyer if they've prepared themselves for the court process.
The observer officer that measured the speed does not need to be the officer that stopped you. The observer gives a description of the vehicle and stays with the vehicle until the ground officers make the stop, confirming the correct vehicle. All officers involved in your stop will be subpoenaed to court should you plead not guilty.
If your actual speed was 130mph and you were written for "only" 110mph, you should consider yourself very lucky. That's usually an offense that results in immediate jail and vehicle impound. The actual speed measured will also be admissible in court and could be considered by the judge in sentencing.
If you decide to plead not guilty, have a sound defense (?) and be well prepared. Do not perjure your testimony as suggested. Most traffic enforcement officers take copious notes. The multiple officers (all 3) who stopped you will most likely vividly recall everything you said and did because of your speed and car.
Good luck.

Actually I think you were lucky that you only received the speeding ticket. By all rights, with a Mercedes going with you at same or greater speed, you could have been truly nailed with an "exhibition of speed or performance " (racing) ticket. Regardless if you were or weren't ,the odds of legitimate purposes of two cars clocking that high a rate of speed on the highway at close juxtaposition and not be racing would be minimal.
That said, get an attorney and hope for the best. Some people think that paying your way out of a mess somehow get's you off. Then there are people so cheap they would rather not pay a $25 fine and choose instead a night in jail. Money has a punitive value and so does jail time.

It's pretty obvious some people believe if you have enough money and lawyers, you will not be held accountable for your actions.
Unless its on video, then he gets hammered for lying his azz off, which he would deserve.
Recently at a friends 20th anniversary of his legal practice , I asked him what he had learned in 20 years. His reply "you can buy as much justice as you can afford, this is America"
This is the Truth, like it or not. Ask OJ ?
