Slightly off topic. I'm new to posting pictures. Can anyone tell me why when I attach a picture I get the link showing instead of the actual picture like everyone else?

You can buy deer whistles at wal-mart for like $6 a set. They fit into the front brake duct holes almost perfectly and are not noticable unless you are really looking for them. I just moved to a place out in the country on a lake and there are lots of deer wandering around. I don't know for sure but have been told the whistles are very effective. One of the big truck lines (don't remember which one) installed whistles on there fleet and cut deer related accidents something like 90%. I just put a set on my new (to me) 99. It makes me feel a little better.

I guess in some ways I was lucky. What I didn't mention was that I hit another deer in that same location about a month earlier in my Suburban. No damage to the truck at all. The deer was totallled.

A coworker gave me a set of those and as soon as I put the Vette back on the road, I'm going to use them. Didn't think of putting them in the brake air ducts.
Thanks for the tip.
Repair work is finished and they did a great job. The amazing thing to me is how good the paint looks. I had been told that Anniversary Red was really tough to match but if I didn't tell you where the repair was I doubt you could tell.
Just curious, who did your repair work? It would be nice to know of a shop around here that can actually match difficult colors and do quality work. Thanks and welcome back on the road!!

I always wondered if those things actually worked. Does anybody know where there is any "proof", some kind of study or anything? I've heard some people swear by them and others say they still hit deer with them installed. Just curious....

Work was done at Capitol Chevrolet's body shop in south Austin. From the very beginning the treated the car like it was their own and me like I was King of Something. They understood the "Corvette Mindset" and refused to cut corners anywhere. For example, the insurance guy spec'd a refurbished bumper but Capitol put a new OEM for no additional cost saying "nothing but new parts goes on Corvettes". It took almost a month but I didn't want to rush them. I couldn't have been more pleased with the end result and have written the owner of the dealership to tell her so.
For what its worth, their repair shop has always been outstanding as well. Have done the column lock and leaking dif recall repairs quickly and correctly and have been very careful with the car everytime they have had it. PM me if you want names of people I dealt with at each of the shops.
Since I live in the good Ole. SF bay Area there are not much wild life running around here, but do you crazy bastards actually cook the deer after you hit it. Part of me thinks that is so wrong, but the other half thinks, damn thats some good meat. HAHA

There are several individuals here in the STL area that I know of who have actually had the deer they hit processed in order to eat, I also know of a Town and Country Police officer who after a report of a Deer hitting, he will call a buddy who will come out and pick the Deer up to have it processed. Deer is good eating, so why not make a bad situation into a good one and eat it. As long as you take care of it right away there is no difference then if you had shot the deer.

Not allowed in Texas. Its considered poaching or something. The police or sheriff are supposed to call designated folks who pick up the deer, have it dressed, and the meat goes to folks who need food assistance. In the case of my kill, the deer stayed on the roadside for almost 10 hours before it was picked up, so I doubt it was fit to eat.
Glad you were able to retain control and limit the damage to the deer-to-car impact alone.
By me there are deer like some people have squirls. They are everywhere. They'd walk into my house if I left the door open. We had one enter our garden through a port-hole opening in our tall protective fence. It freaked out when it saw me near by. It was an ugly scene.
I encounter them maybe twice a month on the local road near home. The speed limit is 45, but at night, I'm doing 35-40. The trouble stretch of road has the woods and brush, only 10 feet from the road on the one side.
Day or night, when I see a deer even if 30 feet off the road in an open area, I slow down to 15. About 50% of the time, there are more deer in the brush. They jump out and I'll have to hit the brakes to a stop.
Deer travel in groups. It's the ones you don't see, you'll have to stop for.

atilla...
I have no proof that the whistles work. It does seem like the deer are more scared and running away now that I have whistles installed. Before they would stand there and stare at me. It could just be coincidence.
