I would not make that assumption. Last year I replaced my delco and had to neutralize the acid on the frame, remove the battery box, prime and paint the frame from the acid leak. So given I had the factory new Delco and 1 replacement that leaked I would give you a 50 50 chance of one not leaking. Jim

Only Delco I had in my car is the original and I jerked it out about 9 months after I bought the car. Battery was leaking. Went with an Optima Red Top (almost 5 years ago) and not had a problem since.

I thought the same thing and bought a new Delco. It started the car once. I took it back and got an Optima and have had no problems since(knock on wood)
My Vette Delco lasted 8000 miles and died, luckily in the driveway. The dealer when asked to pay for the replacement said:
"Oh GM won't pay for an Optima, that's a good battery"
My Camaro Delco lasted 6 years although it was in the UK for 4 years where the temperatures are lower. Unfortunately it leaked but I caught it before it damaged the car.
I now have 2 Optima Red Tops which have been great.
My OEM AC Delco AGM battery is more than 5 years old and starts like the day it was new. AC Delco no longer makes the AGM, so if you want a leakproof battery, you might want to try the Exide Orbital. Given the multitude of Optima battery failures within the last two years, I'd stay away from them until they can straighten out their quality problems.

I just replaced my 7YR Delco AGM after 5 years because it wouldn't hold more than 50-60% charge. Even though the car started fine I figured it was on it's way down.
I got the Exide Orbital AGM. It's a real good battery.
That's probably a good move, since harsher weather is coming your way. San Diego weather is generally very easy on batteries, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed........

w/ that statement 110%. Optimas are prone to premature cell failure. While some people have had success w/ them, many of us have not. I went thru 3 Red Tops in 4.5 years---you couldn't give me one for free. Good luck w/ your search...
For me, a Delco battery is the only way to go. I got 10 years 10 months out of the Delco battery in my Oldsmobile. The Delco battery that is in my 65 Corvette, is 6 years old.
I just replaced the original Delco Battery in my 7 yo GMC Sierra. It would still start the truck on but an analyzer said it was getting low. With winter approaching I figured it was a good time to replace it.
I was cleaning under the hood and noticed my Delco looked inflated/swollen I thought it was going to detonate; this was after about 2 years of service. Replaced it with another one and noticed moisture at the + post after a year of service. Felt it was time to end the suffering and sleepless nights and traded it in on an Optima about 6 months ago. So far so good.

Interesting but the AC Delco is getting a much better result than last time I ran a poll
DeeGee----
You should have another catagory: "I use to have an Optima but dumped it due to problems, and now I have another brand."
This poll does not reflect unhappy FORMER Optima owners....
I had to answer the poll "I have another brand of battery and I have no problems." Yet, you know I had a lot of trouble w/ Optima batteries, which cannot be reflected in your poll...
Got to agree w/ you---the Delco results are suprising so far.....Good luck w/ your poll...BB

I have 6 1/2 years on my OEM Delco. every once in a while I check the charge, and its at 12.26 ish. In the winter, it doesnt like going 3 weeks without a start
