I'm thinking it would be the MN6. Six gears rather than 4 provides better gearing to the acceleration. The driver in the MN6 will have to be able to shift well. I think the MN6 has more tourque as well for most years of C5s.

Since there is more drivetrain loss with the A4, i'm betting the MN6. All things being equal.

It's a drivers race, but the MN6 driver better be able to shift like a pro, it's hard to beat the computer shifting the A4.

To hard to tell by how much either car would win, too many unknown factors, track, drivers etc...

if all things are equal the MN6 would win, but probably not by too much..they are pretty even stock vs stock

My all stock 97 w/auto and 3.15s (me driving) vs my bro in a all stock 04 w/6spd and 3:42's. From a dig I get him by .5-1 cars. From a 30 mph start and now "downshifting" on my part he gets me by 1-2 car lengths.

Auto = Straight line

MN6 = Autocross

Nobody can shift faster than an auto.

Thats why drag cars use autos.

Fallz is correct I've yet to find someone who can outshift an auto. This goes all the way back to my GTO drag racing days. NO ONE beat that car in a straight line.

I've had very good luck while shifting, even against other 6 speeds.
So I guess, 6-speed, red car, excellent driver =

But drag cars don't use STOCK autos! Stock vs. stock, the MN6 wins!

This is based on GM's data:

Axle........ 0-60 MPH..... 1/4 Mile
A4 3.15... 4.75 Sec...... 13.50 Sec
M6 3.42... 4.55 Sec...... 13.25 Sec

Keep in mind that the MN6 has the advantage of a 3.42 rear. Put the same rear in an A4 and the it is pretty much even.

The biggest variable is the driver. An A4 driver has an advantage that driver error is less likely. Although I don't run at the dragstrip, I see driver 'shift' error all the time when I race on a road course.

M6 3.42... 4.55 Sec...... 13.25 Sec
GM uses pro drivers.

The difference is only .25 sec. and .20 of that is in the 0-60 time so it all comes down to the 6 speed driver's ability. 9 times out of 10 your going to see the auto win.

And the '04 has the taller rear end (as do all MN6's), plus starting in '01 they have the HP, the TQ, and broader TQ curve advantage. According to GM, the '01 MN6 is 0.15 sec faster in the 1/4 and the A4's are 0.25 sec faster in the 1/4 than the '97-'00 C5's with the same trannies .

Well, it seems the answer is obvious.
Anyone who owns a stick thinks the stick will win,
and the girls who own auto's think the auto will win.

j/k
