I can't believe the design of these things based on their intended function! It looks like the GM engineers took a low cost design approach to allowing water to drain. Maybe I'm missing something...

I'm not sure, but at high speeds maybe all the junk goes back up inside from the air flow??? I'd bet it's pretty windy in there at 150MPH!

True, true. Maybe attach a large plastic tube to each and route it towards the empty volume that is the cove area.

I don't know of course, but if it was low cost, and less than optimal, I'd bet they had that decision made already by someone else as part of the assignment they were given.

Small animals (mice) might go through and build a nest in there.

Good point. I once had a '62 Olds that wouldn't start. Diagnosis - rat's nest in the air cleaner housing. Then there's the problem with marmots eating your electrical system here when you park to go backpacking in the high country, but that's another subject.

Default Thanks Steve

Thank you for the udderly important information.......
Garaged cars are less likely to have as much in their udders as those that are kept outdoors parked under trees.

Through the access panel in the passenger side wheel well and removing the battery and going from the top. The passenger side doesn't have the udders, but instead has a long tube that twists and turns around towards the bottom of the car. Also, while you're in there it's not a terrible idea to check the a/c evaporator drain for debris as well to prevent a flooded BCM.

Great post. I didn't know that those "udders" were there. Two of mine were just about jammed full of crap. All clear now.

Checked mine and there were totally clear.

I guess that foam cover I installed on the cowl does work.

make sure you get the one back of the battery or you will have an interior leak that might short out the BCM like mine.

Personally, I liked "zilch." It described perfectly well what I had to dig out of my 'vette's udders. I'd vote for "zilch."

Another option, thought not nearly as creative or original, might be "dreck?"

dreck (drk)
n. Slang

Trash...

[German, dirt, trash and Yiddish drek, excrement, both from Middle High German drec, from Old High German]

drecky adj.

I think I pulled mostly "zilch" from my Corvette's udders, but there was probably some "dreck" in there too.

Zilch & Dreck - I luv it! We should all be unzilching and dedrecking our udders in the next couple of weeks.
