My SES light came on and is on steady, not flashing. I read the manual and it says it has to do with emission/gas. Would Seafoam or Marvel system cleaner get rid of this or is there anything elese I should check. This is a 2004 vette with about 30k miles on it so it is still realtively new and problem free. Thanks.
Read your codes, and find out exactly what is causing the light. It could be a sensor failure, and if it is, nothing is going to help it short of replacing the sensor.
Thank you very much. I will look at the codes here in a little bit. My gas cap is on fine. I went ahead and put in a bottle of Sea Foam and a new full tank of 93 octane Shell gas.

Lot's of different things could trigger the CEL light, including misfiring. Getting a handle on the codes is the way to go here.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Based on his handle, this is a college student at a fairly well respected school. If this individual is indicative of today's students, this country is in trouble.
He posts that his SES light is on, and asks if SeaFoam will fix it. Several of us post here that the rational "next step" is to dump the DTC data, and we even post where to find the instructions. What does this person do ???? Doesn't listen to us, dumps in a bottle of SeaFoam and says THEN they'll check for codes ..... really smart ... why waste our time on this forum if you're gonna ask for advice and then IGNORE it.
I looked at the code and it was an emission problem probably due to bad gas most likely. The sea foam is a good way to clean up a small problem like this, it did. I graduated from Texas A&M 2 years ago with 2 engineering degrees and bought my vette at 23 so your remarks make you look foolish. Thanks for the help guys and hopefully the 50 story building that I helped design doesn't collapse since I am obviously incompetent.......

What the heck did he do wrong? Nothing. He asked for advice and in the mean time used his on troubleshooting skills and it worked. And the smart thing was to get on here and ask in the first place. Many of us will ask and troubleshoot at the same time. He didn't waste my time and if he wasted yours then you should have just bypassed the thread. Good job on fixing the problem!
