Default Why I bought a Corvette

I'm curious in why everyone bought a Vette.

Mine:
I had a 1998 Deville, which was an excellent car. Northstar was awesome, but still it just didn't do it for me. I looked at Mercedes E430, S500, BMW 740iL, Jaguar XJ8, even another Cadillac, but an STS. I found several I was interested in and did some research. Overall, these cars were okayin reliability, but basic replacement parts were $$$$$$$. Sort of a turnoff, especially the reliability factor. Then, I checked insurance quotes on them.

My Deville with full coverage was $265 every 6 months.
Mercedes E430, S500, etc: $395 every six months
BMW 740iL: $400 every 6 mos.
Jaguar XJ8: $609 every 6 mos!!!!! WHY???
Cadillac STS: Same as Deville, but again it's still another Cadillac.

Just for the hell of it, I searched for Vettes online. I've always wanted one, but never thought of included it in my searches. Reliability factor was above the other vehicles. Then I plugged in the numbers for an insurance quote.

Get this: $360 every six months!! for full coverage? Holy sheep, how cheap!!
Never would of guessed that. Well, long story short, I have a 98 in the driveway....and never looked back!

When I was 16, one of my best friends father restored a 1959 Corvette.

My friends Father gave my friend this 59 Corvette to him for his 16th birthday. From that day on, I fell in love with the Corvette.!

On my second one now...

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the car. The insurance on my 02 is very reasonable and quite a bit less than my Tahoe. I fell in love with the car when a friend of the family had one back in the 60's. I've owned 3 since then a 1976 L82, a 1995 and my current 2002 Vert.

Be sure to post some pictures when you get a chance.

Why did I get a Corvette? Probably the same reason many others did, always wanted one. Never thought I would have one, but one month ago, it happened. I'm 46 and told my wife late last year that I wanted to start looking again, never thinking it would happen. She said go for it, and I lucked in to a great deal on an 04 C5 Black Coupe. It has truly been a dream come true. Never did I think owning and driving one would be SO MUCH FUN! Joined a local club and it has been great hanging with others who feel the way I do about these cars.

My dad and I always looked at them, but he thought they weren't in reach and I didn't have a garage. I started saving for one after buying my home, which got him thinking about it again. We found him a nice 92 vert the first week that he started shopping. I bought my 02 two years later.

When i was married to my first husband i had two vettes a 75 and then a 77 both used and i did the work on both of them tune up's chromed the engine on the 75 oil changes, brakes you name it but even redid the interior on the 75 but they were used.I always wanted a new one so in 2003 i went to the chevy dealer near me and got a great deal on a brand new 2003 and i just love her.Like i tell some people i love my car more then i could ever love some people i know. When i first got her i use to sit on my garage steps and just look at her because i could not believe she was mine.I miss driving her so much in the winter because i store her.But i have done some small mod's on her thanks to chip from C.C.A. with all his chrome goodies you can buy has kept me busy through the lonely winter months putting all her new chrome bolts and screws on.

When I factor in insurance, gas and maintenance, my vette is about 30% cheaper to operate than my 740iL. The only thing the bimmer has going for it is two extra doors.

Love at first sight when I was around 10. Neighbors had a chrome bumpered shark

Fast forward to 1984... sat in C4 in Chevy dealership. I told my dad, "I was getting one when I got my engineering degree... it would have Z51, a transparent top and a manual tranny"...

Fast forward to 2000... took delivery of my 2001.

All since!

Chuck

Default Took Me Fifty Years...

At age 13, it was 1953...I saw my first Corvette, staring through the Chevy Showroom window. "One day I'm gonna have one a them"...I told my buddies. After all the other "priorities in my life" came first (you know them) I retired and 50 YEARS LATER got my dream Corvette...2003 Torch Red & Red interior. My TAG says it all WRTHW8N4..."worth waiting for".... "ONLY IN AMERICA! "

My dad owned a 62 Fuelie, and had said of all the cars he regretted getting rid of was his corvette. In 1984 I was looking a Motor Trend Magazine and it had a C4 vette, the guages were so futuristic, I was only 13 then but I thought man someday I will have a corvette. My father had said that he would love to be able to get a vette again, but, he passed away before he could get another one. I decided then that before I was 35 I would own a corvette In 2005 I purchased a 1993 TR 6 Speed vette, now I own a 2002 EB Z06. I am fulfilling my dad's dream as well as mine.

Have had a thing for Corvettes since I was a young kid. Had my share of high performance cars, but they weren't up to the all around level of a Vette. I finally got into a financial position to where I could afford a Vette and pulled the trigger on one. On my 8th Vette now and I'm sure there will be others in my future.
