I agree, I also have a 04. Last of the C5s More bugs have been worked out of the breed because they had more years to make it perfect. I have a friend that bought a new 05 C6 right after I bought my 04, He has had lots of weird problems with it.
Hey H4WT LS1, I think your H4WT LS1 and my H4WT LS1 should get together and have a H4WT time. Especially since yours is Navy Blue and I'm in the Navy.
Oh wait, your myspace says your 14 years old. Ack. Nevermind.
I've got an 01' with the oil burning issue, but other then that, it's been fine.
It comes down to what options do you want, with how much you can afford. There weren't any bad years for the C5. Just differences in options.
My only complaints were the transmission(a4 bleh!) and color. It'll be black by the end of next week, and I've already sourced all the MN6 parts so after that.
Are we still debating this? I guess someone in the know needs to settle this once and for all...the '02 is the sleekest, lightest, and most powerful example of a C5. OK, mods, you can close this thread.

There's no clutch, and it's missing 2 extra gears.
Takes the fun out of driving the car. My turbo Nissan, and twin turbo, weed wacker sounding RX-7 are more fun to drive through the mountains than my C5 currently.

Well, 6th gear is an overdrive gear, really. But it would be cool to have a 6 speed auto, like they have in some BMW's! Is this coming anytime soon to the vette?

Albeit, but it also takes the crappy part out of it (constantly pushing on the clutch and getting clutch foot!! arghh)
Like when Im CRUISING the Va beach strip, with tons of cars, showing off, going back and forth, back and forth. My legs would DIE driving a manual a few hours in that.

I think that was more of an issue with the C4s, as I don't think the early C5s are any more problematic than the later ones. It's the luck of the draw I think, as you could have a 100% trouble free 97, or a completely trouble prone 2004.
In my case, my 98 has been very reliable. I bought it in August 2004 and have driven it daily since, adding another 44k to the odometer (it's now got 76k on it) I have only needed two repairs so far (new head unit for the climate control due to the dimming problem, and a new computer due to the original battery leaking acid on it) And the only problem I have right now is that I need to get the oil pressure sending unit changed, but that's not a major problem (in other words I could live with it for a few weeks)
I think the earlier LS1s had less problems with piston slap and oil consumption too. I've owned two 98 LS1s (this car and a 98 Formula) and in both cases I have had no piston slap and no oil consumption.

All in what you're doing with the car. My weekends find me up in the mountains or out in the desert with 20-30 other corvettes, and a handful of replica shelby cobras. The automatic takes fun out of that for me.
If I have to fight heavy traffic, I'll take my truck. Or work on building my clutch muscles.
