Default Best yr vette

hey guys this is my first post, i tried searching but i couldnt find any info on my question

im gunna be looking into gettin a c5 soon, and i know that the 01 and up i believe had a lil more power and a few minor other things different but Reliability wise is there really any difference between the years, i was told not to get a 97 because that was the first yr of the LS1 but other then that is there any yrs that are more prone to have problems then the others?

thanks in advance

First - the C5's, all years, are "good".

Depending on your needs, a later model year might be better - on the other hand, a earlier model year migh be better.

It all depends on the particular Vette, your economic situation, driving needs, etc.

There is really nothing "wrong" with a '97 - however, if that Vette has 100k, and another - say '01 - has 20k, and pricing were approximately equal minus mileage penalties, then more often than not you would be better served with the 'o1.

Buy what you can afford - and what 'suits' your needs.

I dont hear any major issues with the c5 but get the newest you can afford. BTW 01 and up was only a 5Hp diff. and I believe 20 Tq. And no I don't know of any reliability issues that would pitt one year against another, nothing major anyway. Read the stickies and do a general search and I'm sure you will find everything you need to know. Good luck!

alright well thanks for the replys, im looking at really any yr c5 but most likly will have to be under a 2000 under 60k miles because of my financial cituation....right now i driving a frikn neon srt-4 and i hate it, its slow and FWD sucks, and i cant go ANYWHERE without someone trying to race me and im deffintily trying stopping my typical young street racer ways. so im switching to the dark side

but reliablity was is there really a differnce in the years, or are they preety much the same, i know the LS1 is a beast of a motor and dosent die, and im not really planning on modding the car to much if i get it so

this is why i brought up this question, if youll click the link below and explain for me please

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Re...ette&trimid=-1

it seems like the 97 had more problems and so did the 2000 but i thought they were all the same so why would some have different problems then others?

I followed the link you gave and like I said no MAJOR problems, yes every year has glitches according to them except 04 but they were termed moderate, although I didn't go through every single one. BTW all c5's have a column lock issue, read the stickies

For the 01 model year there were TONS of upgrades, I would not even look at 00 back if you can afford it. Anything newer is basically the same, Z changed in 02 and 04 some nice things, but not the verts or coupes.

All years of the C5 were good and they have proven to be very reliable. There are some common problems with all years, and yes, the later model year cars did have features that the earlier ones didn't - plus some options on the earlier cars were standard on the later ones.
