Glasswork is indeed an art, and this certainly is over-the-top for application as a car shifter.
I'm not interested in a new shifter myself, but I'd be curious to see how a less detailed shifter turned out, maybe based on the shape of a C6 shifter ****, with clear and a primary color based on vette paint.
Ouch guys. I referred her over here because I thought others would be interested in some unique custom options. These are only a few of the many styles I am sure she has. Lampworking/glass blowing is a difficult art to master. I have been working with glass for almost 10 years...the last 3 have included lampworking. Pretty harsh comments - If I had made these (as if I could) those comments would really sting. *shrug* art is subjective. It takes a lot of skill to place those dots with a 3mm wide, 13" long piece of glass over a flame.
No, the wouldn't. The way we work the glass and anneal it afterwords... it would definitely hold up. Think about how strong the glass dishes or cookware that you use is (Pyrex)...Lampworkers also use this glass - to us it is known as Borosilicate (Boro) as well as other glasses from Italy, Germany and the US.
I hope to get one soon and will be able to let you know. I'm 99% confident it would hold up better that others on the market.
Just as an FYI if you don't know about lampworking and how it is done (of if you are even interested):
I certainly appreciate the hard work that goes into doing this. I work for a company that makes oxygen concentrators. As part of our ad campain, we had a professional photographer take shots of a gal who was using one of our industrial concentrators - the Regalia - to create glass beads. The Regalia contains its own compressed air source and, of course, the oxygen fractionator to produce 90%+ oxygen (to feed the torch). No bottles of high-pressure are required. If any of you glass blowers are interested, let me know and I'll send you the link to our website.

Here's my "Glass Elegance" shiftknob. I made it to look exactly like glass. I admit, though, that it is alot easier to machine than glass.

I'd be curious too ... I'm more of a subtle-blingy guy (does that make any sense?!? ). Once I get my Vette Essentials interior in my MY coupe, I wonder what a jet black shift **** with some sort of MY streak through it would look like???
Oh, come on folks. It's evening on CF and some people are letting their humor flow. There's no doubt that it takes quite a bit of talent to make something like that. Some of the crew is just having some fun. I will say that it's a good thing you didn't post over in OT. Now THERE'S a brutal bunch.
Good luck Nicker!
yeah those guys in ot are no joke. haha.
anyway, the shifters seem to be too much, but if they were less complex, they might look good.
Nicker, it seems you do have a good talent for glass. All you really need to do is design/make something these guys really want.... then you will have them begging you to sell it to them. So dont give up... just give em what they want. Oh... and you also need to be a supporting vendor on this site to sell things/advertise to the members.
