Mod bug (n) - a parasite that fixates itself to an owners wallet and through a strange process of both digital and physical digestion devours the contents of the wallet and excretes high performance automotive parts, enhancements and shiny things.
Q: this aside, how is one infected by the mod bug, and why do you personally not seek removal of the infection
(my answer) My car is my home away from home. The only place where i am in complete control of what happens inside. Mods are a way of me expressing my ownership over my car by personalizing it. Driving a stock car feels like i'm driving sombody elses.
All our mods are to improve performance for running at the track. When driving a road course, I get a rush out of catching & passing the car ahead of me, especially exotics.
I cant leave well enough alone, ive modded every car ive owned and even a lot of the stuff I have. I see ways I feel I could improve it and its off to the races. I like it when my Z takes bikes down, thats my motivation
I swore I was going to keep my Z stock. Hmm that lasted about a few weeks. I want my Z06 faster than my previous modded C5. I just think it's fun working on your car, trouble shooting, and actually getting to know your entire car. Some people don't even know what's under the hood most of the time. You've got to tear down the motor, rebuild the engine, take off body panels, or swap out exhaust to truely know your car. Do something besides let it sit in the garage.
From: 90% of all Fords are still on the road.....the other 10% actually made it home!
First and foremost it's because I've never in my life seen a car that looks or performs better from the factory that it does with aftermarket modifications!!! And agreeing with what someone already said, by leaving alone and not doing anything to it, it looks just like any other corvette driving down the road. Whether we want to call it an infectious bug or just another addiction doesn't matter to me either way......this is something that will NEVER change for me.

My car is currently my one hobby and I like it to look different than the other cars that are around. Therefore, I mod it to my tastes and as long as I can afford it, I will continue to do so.
I've always wanted to personalize my cars, but haven't always had 1)such a nice car or 2) a garage to keep it that way. Now that I finally have both, I see no reason not to express myself and "build" the car that I always wanted.
Frankly, I don't care if nobody else notices what I've done to it. I didn't buy it to impress anyone else. I have it because I enjoy driving it.
Being in England I decided not to mod either the engine or the major structures. Two reasons. First, it would be difficult to get spares and find a technician to work on anything but a stock car. Second, the insurance here is punitive if you modify an already unusual car.
I've just done cosmetic mods and stuff to get through the SVA (Vehicle Standards Compliance Test).
Don't know how to describe it. For me, one of the best joys in life is hitting that accelerator peddle and the car responding like a rocketship (which I believe Mods make further possible over stock)... the blistering speed and loud exhaust. Everytime I get into my card, its as if its brand new. I look forward to driving it everyday.
