No GTO ever beat me in the 1/4 mile! They never have the lead. Our gang rents the strip a couple times each year and GTO's always turn out. Vettes also eat Z28's for breakfast, not even close.
I think it will be a close race but the Corvette should win, with it being equal drivers like you said and if both cars are stock. The GTO weighs 500lb. more than the Vette. Its going to take more than 50hp to push the GTO ahead of the Vette. Thats how it would be in a perfect world but as you know we dont live in a perfect world.
I’ve seen this question posted many times. The threads usually go down hill quickly.
I have seen plenty of Stock LS2 GTO’s and plenty of stock C5’s race at the track. Given the same transmission and skill level of driver in each vehicle it a very even race.
Vette owns a LS2 GTO up top, I raced 2 at the track one auto, one manual and the auto put about 2 cars on me off the line but I quickly cought up, the manual was a close race but looking at the time slip I ran a 13.2 he ran a 13.4. Dont know if he was modded but the auto had intake and cat back. Plus vettes handle way better and are more aerodynamic, period

(DO A SEARCH)
Comparing apples to oranges. GTO is heavier and does not have the rubber to match the LS2; though they are sweet rides.

stock for stock.....a 2005+ GTO should pull slightly ahead of any C5 vette with the exception of Z06. Now thats assuming both cars are stick, and both drivers know what they're doing.

Wrong bud, the gto is about 600 lbs HEAVIER so how would 50 hp pull 600 lbs ahead of a c5 vette?? Mabye a auto but def not a manual, not going to happen.

You're the one
Maybe he doesn't know how to search
Maybe he wants NEW opinions
If you think he should do a search, how about you just save yourself a couple of clicks and just skip this thread
Problem solved

They are heavier and share IRS, so that's a disadvantage. However, I could see an auto GTO ripping a C5 pretty easily. Comes down to driver always.
You're also telling me a Corvette with the same motor is always going to beat a f-body? Not a chance. F-bodies usually have lower gearing, better weight transfer and have a solid rear axle. Two things that equal drag race pwnage. I own both cars and would generally take my WS6 over the Corvette for a drag race. No knock on the Vette of course, it's more at home on the road course as opposed the f-body that lives at the drag strip.

a TA is in a totally different class that a vette, the ta has that raw horsepower you know and feel is there, the vette has a smoother and broader power range, comparing a TA to a vette is like comparing apples to oranges, stock for stock, id put money on the vette any day.

Ok I had nothing better to do so I dug through about 1000 time slips and found one where I raced a stock 05 6 speed GTO. I remember being impressed with the car and spoke to the owner after we ran. He was a great driver. The car had 400 miles on it.
