Technically, in VA, equipment defects are a Secondary offense. You can't be pulled over for, tints, front plate, seatbelts, in and of itself. You would have to be pulled for a moving violation first, then cited the other offenses. Thank GOD I've run into NICE cops. When I got my ticket in Feb, I had no front plate, tints, no county sticker. And the statey, didn't cite any of it, he did say, "NICE CAR"!
I thought they could pull you over for any reason.
I was actually going below the speed limit because I was resetting my iPod when I got pulled over Saturday afternoon for 35% in New Kent County. Everything else is 'legal' with my car; with the exception of of a smoked real tag cover. The trooper gets out the car with the tint meter and tells me to roll the window up partially and he slaps the meter on it. He said nothing about any other infraction.
I hate to say it but the easy fix for the law would be you have to roll down your windows when stopped...than again that would be easy and no $s for them
I guess it's just personal preference, but I like to be able to see who is driving the other vehicle (I might know them and want to wave ) and I don't car if the other people see who I am (they might know me and want to wave ). Even the factory tint on GM vehicles can make it impossible to see who is inside across the intersection if there is any glare. To each their own
i got one about a year ago
have double limo tint
ticket was 75 tint was 225 no chance im removing it dont care if I keep getting them it was a great mod
also like c5 girl said if a cop is near you in traffic just throw down the windows and wave
In Missouri the State Patrol got the window tint measuring device about a year ago and they have been using it any chance they get. I was stopped for the tint on my 00 GTP, the Officer asked me if I knew what % it was and if I had it put on. Of course I told him I bought the car like that. Came up 14%. Lucky for me he just gave me a warning and told me to fix it. Haven't been stopped since and it is still on the car. I have even heard stories where the local Police will call in the State Patrol to take a reading on suspect cars.
yea i got pulled over twice for that...one cop even admitted to me that he just wanted to check me out because he thought i was too young to be driving a Corvette...and my friend (who is a cop) brought that little tint checker thing and i was VERY under the limit...a good 7%... so yea i keep my windows down even with all the chicks hitting on me...it gets annoying though!!! maybe not...
Dallas Officer Dies In Shootout Following Car Chase

DALLAS -- A Dallas police officer was shot and killed Friday following a car chase in which the suspect's car ended up nose to nose with the squad car, NBC 5 reported.
The chase began around 5 p.m. when officers spotted a car matching the description of a vehicle from a murder at a drug house Thursday in Oak Cliff, police said. When police tried to pull Ruiz over, he sped off.
The short chase ended in a West Dallas neighborhood when the suspect lost control of his car. The police car and the suspect's car ended up front bumper to front bumper.
Police said Ruiz refused officers' orders to exit his vehicle, and when Nix tried to break out the window, they said Ruiz opened fire from inside.
Ruiz was slumped down inside a car that Chopper 5 video showed was riddled with bullets.
Dozens of officers with guns drawn had surrounded the vehicle before SWAT officers removed him from the car at about 7 p.m. Paramedics took the man from the scene in an ambulance.
The standoff lasted about two hours. Police spokesman Vernon Hale said the car's dark, tinted windows initially prevented officers from knowing how many people were inside.
TOO bad it wasn't raining when that cop pulled you over to waste your time - you know you got pulled over because one, you were driving a Vette, and two, he was looking to see if he could bust you for something else ie: drunk driving, possession of drugs, no insurance, no license, etc - the tint stop was just an excuse to pull you over
Here in North Dakota we have to have a FRONT license plate (that includes all you out of stater's also who come to North Dakota) and if you don't have a FRONT license plate on your car, you can be pulled over - I'm NOT putting a front plate on my Vette, and I'm sure that some day I will get pulled over for it - and I only hope it's raining that day, cause it's gonna take me a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time to find my license, registration and proof of insurance - cause if you wanna waste my time on a frivolous stop, you can bet your ESS I'm gonna waste yours
In California, darkest tint on front windows is the factory tint only; no aftermarket tint allowed.
Back windows can be painted black as long as you have outside rear view mirrors!
Though that's the law tint tickets are kinda rare around here. I think because San Diego is such a tourist and military area thus attracting cars from all over the US that are subject to different tint laws.
some inspection locations will check
most just look on the window for the "legal" stickers
if you know somebody at the tint place, that option is not a problem
I carry a statement (basically a receipt) from the place where I got my tint done that says what the tint is on the windows. That way if this ever happens to me I can show them its legal....or at least try.
One thing that I was told when I got my last tint ticket is to not have them half way up/down because that lets the cop know how dark they are from a distance that was my last mistake, so they are either all the way up or down these days!
I know everybody loves the dark tint for the privacy and it looks cool (I think it looks cool too). But to a LEO - he has no idea what kind of evil is lurking behind the tint, and if the evil is cradling a pistol on it's lap. That's why they have the laws really - to protect the LEO's when they make a traffic stop.
I think that is a Bunch of BS. What if I was in a truck that was jacked up and you can not see inside anyways.. Do I have to remove my lift kit?
this is just a money maker, bottom line, it presents no more danger then a Jacked up 4x4, that you can not see into or what the driver has on his lap.
